Here is what I taste in a Dr. Pepper....now, I will have one later today to refresh my taste bud memory, but what first comes to mind is sassafrass, vanilla, cherry.....instead of using cola try rootbeer. There are probably other flavs that I taste, but without having one right in front of me, I'm playing totally on memory of what stands out the most. I thought someone sold that flavoring......maybe it was the premade, but I'll go through my diy vendor list and check again:)

Good Luck.....

I believe the cherry component you're looking for to emulate the Dr. Pepper taste is Maraschino.

Maraschino adds almond I think, but there probably is some particular cherry chemical used too. Anyhow, I think I read in comments for PA Root Beer that someone said it was like Dr. Pepper.

Maybe Vapor Renu is a good place to start. I think I have seen instances where their list is wrong and stuff that seems like it is Flavor West isn't listed as it, so IDK there.

HealthCabin dot net out of China sells a Dr. Pepper flavoring but it's comprised of 7 or 8 flavors you buy individually. Never tried it. Could be a good place to start for a list of flavors anyway.

Keeping in mind the subjectivity of individual taste, I found DeKang Dr. Pepper unvapeable ... although I do like the soft drink.

Maraschino is cherry. You're probably thinking of Amaretto, which adds an almond-ish flavor.

Maraschino cherry - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

After Prohibition was repealed in 1933 the Food and Drug Administration revisited federal policy toward canned cherries. It held a hearing in April 1939 to establish a new standard of identity. Since 1940, "maraschino cherries" have been defined as "cherries which have been dyed red, impregnated with sugar and packed in a sugar sirup [sic] flavored with oil of bitter almonds or a similar flavor".[2]

It isn't the full flavor profile but there is clearly almond flavor in maraschino cherries. Go taste them again and you will see... err taste =)
