Dogs do the strangest things... Officer Molly has developed an eating disorder since the new foster came in. We have always fed her in her crate, closing but not latching the door so she could come out when she was done. Since Ms. B came in, Molly won't eat; she buries her bowl under the blanket in the crate and guards it for hours. I've had to wait until she's really hungry and then feed her outside of the crate.

We've nicknamed Ms. B Ms. P because she pees everywhere. Thank god for tile floors. She's quite geriatric with congestive heart failure and gets really distressed in crates, so trying to crate train her at this point is out.

Incontinence is hard to deal with. Often times it takes medication and even that doesn't have a great track record.. And id bet with the heart issues not something even with risking.

Simplest solution would be doggy diapers (depending on the breed I use normal baby diapers (although most of my experience w diapers is when they are in heat)). But diapers has it's own problems.. in ways it's better than random accidents bc at least you are choosing what to clean and it doesn't spread as easily (like you or the pups stepping in it) but you have to bath the dog. However the dog find the whole experience of ...... on themselves distasteful and motivates them to signal more or hold it longer. Don't think it's practical in this situation. You have basically taken on a hospice like environment for ms p. Best thing I can think of if you are trying to reduce her accidents (my take on it is you aren't too terribly concerned/bothered .. Tbh I wouldn't either.) But small area confinement.. Like a babygated hall or small room. Half of the room is newspaper or piddle pads, the other half toys, water/food bowls, beds/blankets. If/when she starts hitting the paper/pads, gradually diminish the size from half the room to a corner..

As to officer molly.. Sounds like classic dominance issues. this is more likely to happen with dogs of the same gender. And oft when an older dog of same gender is around. Guarding food is text book.

It's an underlying issue with Molly but again dont think you would want to tackle it. If it's established it can be somewhat involved and if no other problems are being shown, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Sounds like very low level 'symptoms'.

Yeah, Molly will adjust. :) She didn't have an issue with our last foster (also female) but that one was only 7 months old when she arrived and they wound up playing together all the time (that foster was with us for 6 months regaining her health after being diagnosed with dermatomyositis).

Ms. B is not very interested in the other dogs other than harassing my biggest (Barley) constantly if there is food around. She's quite dominant in that sense. He doesn't take her very seriously and just avoids/ignores her when she does it, even if she rushes him. She's only 6 pounds but of course with dogs, they don't pay much attention to size.

Compounding the ...... is that her heart medication is a diuretic, so she has to pee frequently. We have a ton of flat cloth diapers and just keep an eye out for puddles. If she pees, we throw a diaper on it to soak it up, then run a WetJet with vinegar/water over it after it's cleaned up. It just takes a second.

Ms. B was supposed to be a hospice foster with very little time left, but once the stress of her shelter stay/vet stay were over and she was in a home she's really bounced back and I wouldn't be surprised to see her go for another couple of years. :)

This was her a few days ago - a vast difference from the sickly, frail little thing that arrived 3 weeks ago!

Here are our two girls. Both rescues. The first one, Ellie, we got from a local Humane Society. She was a day away from being put down; skinny, nervous, suffering from Kennel Cough and had been returned for eating a couch. She wouldn't come out of the cage they had her in for about 15 minutes. I took her for a walk around the kennels. After about 3 minutes, she laid on my feet and looked up at me! She had me earlier but they finished it.
I took Ellie to the Dog Park every day to let her burn off energy. One day a guy came to the park with five Labs. One of them and our Ellie really hit it off and played with each other the whole time they were there. The next day, same thing. On the third day, Ellie wouldn't leave the area of the gate. She was waiting for her new friend to show up! Her new friend, Scarlett, was in a foster home and was available for adoption. We went through all the procedures and took her home with us for a "sleep over" to see how they did together. They have been inseparable ever since!! Great googily moogily! That looks like the entrance to a pet hotel at petsmart! Are they all yours or was that a play date?

Hehe, the scotties are all mine (we were breeding for a few years there) but the poodles and whippets are my groomers dogs, however. We have since stopped our breeding and our groomer has taken over the blood line. I currently have 5 scotties, and I believe my groomer has 6. It is quite the zoo!
