Have you seen any of the TV segments about the new controversial doll: Bebe Gloton? I couldn't remember the name so I looked on the net, and here's a bit about it that I found on FoxNews:

A Spanish toymaker known as Berjuan has developed a breast-feeding doll that comes with a special halter top its young "mothers" wear as they pretend to breast-feed their "babies." The halter top has daisies that cover the little girls’ nipples and come undone just as easily as the flaps of a nursing bra would.

I think the doll actually suckles and makes suckling noises. Ya' know...maybe I am truly getting old:) This just seems to be a bit much!!!

This did make me think of my favorite doll. Again, I couldn't remember the name and had to do a search on the net for '60s dolls...and I found her. She was a companion doll (meaning "life size" -- 36 inches tall) and was called Patty Playpal. I loved that doll. And I cried my little heart out when I cut her hair and Mom told me that me that, no, it wouldn't grow back.

What was your favorite childhood toy?

Sudoku - that doll is a bit much! Think about the age group that would play with that thing. Why would you want to teach them something like that at such an early age in life? Oh what will they come up with next. When I was in High School and in my child development class, we had to carry around the crying baby for two days. It cried every few hours and you had to feed it. If you let it cry more than two minutes it started recording how long you let it cry. After two days, I was ready to give that thing back!

I just now saw a bit on Fox news about that doll. I am more than a little put off. Must be the age thing. 8-o

My favorite dolls in the fifties were Muffy and Ginny. I had a trunk load of stuff for them.

About 1950 my sister and I got black baby dolls for Christmas. We called them our chocolate dolls and loved them to death.

Also had a Pitiful Pearl and tried so hard to make her look better with hairdos and make-up!

Jennee, I think those realistic babies being used in schools are great. It certainly did what it intended to do if you wanted to give it back within two days, lol.

Lucy, yep, lots of people are put off by them. Many wonder if it won't result in young girls wanting to get pregnant when they hit their teens by "bringing out" maternal instincts. I'm not sure about those objections but I object to it as not being age appropriate. Let the young girls learn about such things more naturally just by virtue of the fact that they'll probably see this happening with real mothers and babies.

Sudoku - It very much did what it was intended to. I am now 29 and still not sure if I want babies! LOL... But It also made me wonder, if we were able to have that class earlier thant JR and SR year if there would have been less pregnant teens roaming the halls of High School. These days, I think it should be available TWICE. And as a requirement not an elective. Once around the 7th/8th grade (These days that's when girls start losing their virginities) and again in High School and maybe that could help prevent a lot of teen pregnancies. (Not all of course). Nothing else seems to be working, Maybe this would. That doll is life like enough to really open your eyes. Especially it when it cried at 2 a.m! LOL.

How sad that so many get sexually involved at such a young age. When I was in junior high (I think they call it middle school now, but I was in the 7th grade), we all were so shocked when an eight grader got pregnant. By the time we hit senior year, you'd think something was in the water! Those dolls should have been around in the late 60s/early 70s when the sexual revolution was gearing up. (It was weird going to my 20 yr high school reunion and some people were already GRANDPARENTS!)

As long as there are humans, it's gonna happen. I had an aunt (born in 1901) who "had to get married" and they did not want to celebrate their big anniversaries because they didn't want everyone realizing the difference in how long they were married and how old their son was (that's kind of sad, too, actually). I also had two teachers from the same family who had to get married...their parents and their grandparents also had to get married...it just ran in that family, lol.

At least my niece and her husband waited until their daughter was a year old before they got married...they wanted to see if they'd make it. Now, 11 years, they're a strong couple and also have a son, who is an adorable 4 year old.

When I was in 8th grade a girl in my class was pregnant also. A friend of a Friend had a baby when she was 13. Her daughter is now 15 and has a baby of her own. So she is 28 and a grandmother already. I could NOT imagine, being a grandparent before the age of 30!

LOL...because I never had kids, I don't think of myself, at 56, being in the "grandmother" age range, let alone 30. I'm with you on that one!

That doll is definately a little e over the top. 8-o I know girls that got pregnant at 12, I got pregnant at 18 (fall after I graduated). This doll appalls me, it's different with dolls that make diaper changing, and potty training seem fun, cause they aren't and any girl who has ever babysat knows it. This is def not an appropriate thing.

That doll is nuts! Beyond the whole breastfeeding thing it essentially teaches little girls that it's ok to show their chest, pop out their boobs at random.. WTF?

As for the young pregnancies.. dad fixed me right up on that one.. when I was 13 he set me up to babysit for the neighbors kids (ages 6 and 8) who were the most demonic brats I've EVER babysat in my life. It also probably helped that I was practically forced to help raise my younger siblings. I know I don't want kids. Maybe one day if I get married and the hubby really wants them I might agree to make him happy (not likely lol) but I really don't want them. I feel like I've already been there, done that, why raise another? The only thing I'm lacking from the "parenting experiance" is the pregnancy and childbirth.. no thank you.. I'll pass.

Babysitting complete brats unfortunately did not keep me from getting pregnant young since it truly was accidental, stupid yes, avoidable yes, but accidental none-the-less. Find the right guy, and get a little older, you might be surprised to find your opinion on wanting kids changes, then again it might not.

LOL doubtful. I truly can't stand kids. They love me to death but there are only a select few I can stand.

My boss's son.. is awesome.. love him to death.. would I keep him? NO
My co-worker's daughter.. very good gir.. would I keep her.. nope

To me.. kids are nothing but snot nosed, sticky fingered, poopy diapered pests. I find it hard to believe I ever was one.. though my mom reassures me constantly that I was never like that

I didn't even like kids when I was one. Even at 4 or 5 I'd rather be in the house helping the adults with whatever they were doing than be outside playing with the other kids.

Naah.. If I ever get the urge to be a parent.. I'll adopt a teenager :p

I never wanted kids until my bf and I got together. I never believed anyone when they told me so, but love can change strange things like that. Buuut I won't be having kids for a while... finish school first.

That doll isn't half as disturbing as one I saw when I was younger. It was this Mommy doll, who was pregnant, and could actual give birth to a baby. It was the creepiest thing I had ever seen. Needless to say, I only saw the commercial for it for a week, and it never made it to stores. Thank god...

I was Pregnant 4 minutes after I got married! LOL not quite but close. I was all of 18 and gave birth at 19, I had baby 2 at 20. I am now glad i was young enough to think it was a good thing. Now I just go white at the thought of 2 children at that age! Of course it made me a youngish Grandma! That was nice, because the boys almost ran me to death!
My sisters best friend had a baby at 15 years old. They married, finished Jr.High school and high school, went to school to be paramedics and divorced when the child was almost 20! The mom was only 35 years old. Geeze...
That doll gives me the creeps! What parent in their right mind would buy it? I wouldn't even let my daughter have a halter top!

    I'm 26... I can't imagine being a mommy, let alone a grandmommy!
