this "steeping" is done by just keeping the top of the bottle off, right? i have a 60ml bottle of cherry liquid that smells/tastes like
formula44-D and lighter fluid.

Hahahaha! I have a few of those too. I'm going to let them steep for a while, but I think that no matter what happens with them, two of them can be passed forward. We'll see. Blueberry and Cinnamon something, and Butter Rum. The blueberry tastes like perfume and I don't like blueberries anyway (it was a sample), and the cinnamon tastes like cloves. It reminds me of the dentist. Ick. The butter rum might be able to be mixed with something else to make a new flavor? I'll probably try that.

Haha - You may need more than steeping for that one. Perhaps a cleansing ritual.. or 3.

I saw a good video on steeping: YouTube - Steeping Tips and Tricks

that chick is SERIOUS about her steeping! thanks all.

Some of her "steps" don't make sense....ie keeping the ejuice away from light. What difference could that possibly make since it's gonna be in all kinds of light after she stops steeping it. Also, no control ejuice to use as a comparison so there's no way to measure effectiveness of her process. The ejuice darkening could be just the flavoring's reaction to the nicotine and have nothing to do with flavor. It's interesting, but that's about all you can say .

Have you ever purchased a product that says "store in a cool, dark place" or "keep away from sunlight"?

I keep my juices in a hard purple plastic cosmetic box, so they don't get exposed to additional light. I've purchased lots of juice, and if it is mixed at the time of order, most juice needs time for the flavor to optimize. I think Shanb's steeping video is spot-on. I basically do this with all my juices, and find it speeds up the aging process. I've seen a LOT of newbies post juice reviews after trying a new juice the day it arrives in the mail, or complain about a lack of flavor. There are some juices that are great right way, but most get much better with time. Which, unfortunately, you can't taste in the video.

Again, opinion......which is fine. But that's just it, inserting a control would help move it away from opinion and towards fact.

Can you name a few consumable products that have that storage label? I can't think of any, but they may exist and I'm simply not familiar with them.

Olive oils, well almost any oil really, are susceptible to light and air - they go rancid. It's why most olive oils are sold in light-blocking bottles.

I realize that most e-juice is not made with oil, and are usually used before they would turn rancid even if they were (can't imagine my cinnabomb lasting that long!) but it's still a possibility I suppose.

Nicotine is photosensitive...keep out of the light.

I would not leave the bottles open at all...this will cause the nicotine to oxidize and degrade.

Simply shaking the bottles and letting them sit will give the same result...in my experience.

A bad bottle will not get better....if it's bad, it's bad.

Steeping will let the flavors blend together...

My 2 cents.

I thought VG was considered to be an oil... not sure though..

According to a website I just read, along with the wisegeeks website, VG is derived from oil, but is stripped from oil.. so it's not really an oil. It also does not oxidize so it will not turn rancid and has a long shelf-life...

To the OP, sorry for getting so off-topic. I generally don't steep the way the video does, but I have noticed that flavors get better after awhile. The only time I have left the lids off my juice is when I'm dripping or when the juice comes with a funky alcohol scent/flavor. I leave the lid off those in *hopes* that the alcohol will evaporate a bit. Has only worked in 1 of the 3 liquids this happened with, tho. I'm also really new at this whole vaping thing but from the posts that I have read on the whole issue of steeping, either people believe in it or they don't and many people have many different ways of doing it.
