Well my brand new Ford Explorer inspired the statement! ... I loved that Truck but my God, I spent my first four months of ownership at the Ford dealer ... and as I remember, so did my mother back in 1991 when she purchased a brand new Ford Thunderbird. The funny thing is, I remember bragging to my friend about my mom's brand new red car (kids :p), and my friend is the one who said "Oh, didn't you know Ford means fix or repair daily?" He didn't lie, that T-bird was a constant headache to mom for the entire 8 years that she owned it. :p

LOL! A Ford Explorer was the first and last American car my father ever purchased.

oh to reminisce. the ole' thunderturd, how i did love thee. let me count the ways.

alright, i'm done.

FYI, the exploders don't hold their value well at all. check out blue book values on a few of the older models. if you're the type that likes to sell your old vehicle and get a new one every couple years, that may matter immensely. though, mine has been a tough little beast worthy of the reputation ford trucks have in certain circles.

No, I'm the type that likes to lease (aka try it) with the option to buy if I love it ... If it ain't right I need to know that I can move on, and explore my other options :glare: ...

But yes, I am aware that Ford has a better reputation for their trucks. :)

Question for you folks ....

Lets say you needed to have a heart valve replaced with an artificial valve. The surgeon performs open-heart surgery and does the delicate replacement of the valve in order to save your life.

Given the choice, would you select a valve made in China, or one made in the US?
Seeing that the leading cause of death in this country is health care,I'd go with China.

i'm sorry but there's just no way i will knowingly buy anything that comes from China. i'm sure there may be some quality stuff that comes from there but i just don't see a reason to risk it. as liberal as i am i also have a strong desire to "buy American" if i possibly can.

this article basically lists the concerns that i have in a nutshell: The Price of ‘Made in China’

for those who don't wanna read the whole thing the last paragraph pretty much sums it up for me:

"The bottom line here is this: Buying “Made in China” — whether steel for our bridges or dolls for our children — entails large costs that most consumers and, sadly, even our leaders don’t consider when making purchases. This is hurting our country — and killing our economy."

Come to think of it, I'd certainly go for the Chinese surgeon considering the state of parenting and schools in this country.

I would prefer to die, then be subjected to Western Medicine (true story). The overwhelming majority of Healthcare physicians enter into a career in medicine for the money, and prestige that comes with it, not because they have a desire to heal the sick.

We chose Wall Street over manufacturing. Because of this, the rich get richer, the poor lose jobs to China and get poorer.... Unfortunately, it's set to remain this way for quite some time due to various trade agreements, wealthy corporations looking to make the most money for the least investment, etc., etc. I agree something needs to change, but looking at China as the only big bad evil that set this into motion is just not right. China does not suck anymore then the American corporations who have made sure that at some point, we ALL need to buy something from China. Whether it be due to our own low pay that makes it impossible to buy more expensive, American made products, or whether it be because it's just getting too hard to even FIND some things that are made in America.

Well, my question had nothing to do with what physician you would want to open your chest and replace a heart valve.

My question was about an artificial heart valve itself ... Given the choice ... Would you want a Chinese made artificial heart valve or an American made heart valve installed in your coronary system?

How about an electronic heart pacemaker installed in your chest ... Chinese or American pacemaker?

be honest

Depends. Are we allowed to research which factories these came from? Because if I can research this, I'll base my decision on both quality and price. Healthcare is a for profit industry in this country, and I actually wouldn't be surprised if the American branded pace maker or heart valve was indeed, manufactured in China to ensure the highest profit.

China also has a wonderful policy of executing corrupt bankers and politicians. Perhaps Wall Street and Washington need one way tickets . Being Canadian, do you think we could have American Airlines do a stopover in Ottawa to pick up the members of Parliament? Please and thankyou.:)

I have a better solution. How about the people of America stop electing politicians who take hand outs from these corporations (I realize that this is both parties)? That way, instead of thinking up ways to add things like the cigarette tax Ito things like ecigs, they can get their money from the people who actually have it in this country via taxing the crap out of Chinese imports to the point where it's suddenly a more economical solution to hire American citizens again? Of course, that would mean an end to protecting corporations from regulation and we Can't have that. We need to protect those job makers who make jobs in China.

My honest answer is neither, and not for reasons of better, or worse (China vs America). I would never undergo any type of vital organ surgery, even if my life "here" depended on it .. at least not willingly.

So I am probably not the best person to ask this question. :)

By your picture I would assume you either own a corvette, or wish you did.
So my question to you is where do you think Corvettes are made?
If you look at the door sticker, or in the paper work you will find that it only says "Assembled in the US", but if you start digging around you will find that almost all parts in any GM car come from any number of countries China included.
