I try to stick to this whenever and wherever I can. We are most definitely NOT smoking - so why associate our Personal Electronic Nicotine Inhaler System :)sneaky:) with the 'evil weed'?

Seriously, though, I always refer to it as my vaporizer when asked. When pushed for details, I say it's a nicotine inhaler. The word 'cigarette' acts as a trigger for the 'antis' in the same way as a cloud of what looks like 'smoke' sets them coughing.

Or as TW called it's Tornado, "recreational nicotine inhalor" :)

If you're a big muscular guy who somehow got beat up by a chick, bruises and bumps and scratch marks all over ya, are you going to say "This skinny lil girl whooped my ....!"? Or would you really say "yeah, you should have been there, these 15 guys jumped me from out of nowhere, I took out 14 of them, but the last one had a cat he threw in my face and it scratched me up and then he ran away!!!"

LMAO!!! This made me laugh so hard!

for you it seems like a matter of inconvenience.

this is not just for you. its a notice for all people vapers or not to differentiate ourselves from smokers. also when asked about it why would you feel like not sharing the world of vaping with them? do you not feel that vaping is a wonderful thing ? i dont get it. why not share and save a life or make an impact for change in others..

i guess im a humanitarian?
Well, I guess I'll be the first one to disagree. While I don't agree that the term PV should be used, nobody knows it. It's easier to just say "electric cigarette" cause the whole world pretty much knows about those. I would rather say "e-cig" than sit there and say PV, then I'd have to explain what that stands for, they'd still be clueless, so I'd have to explain what it does. If you say e-cig, they say "ahhh ok" and you don't have to explain anything. Same end result, why take the long route when it comes out to the same thing? *shrug*

I agree, calling it a PV, or some new word we don't have yet is much better than calling it an e-cigarette. By attaching cig to the word people associate it with smoking. I read a thread a while ago where someone compared his experience explaining his device to waitors/bartenders/store owners etc. using either "vaporizer" or "e-cigarette" in the explanation. He had much more success in being allowed to vape there if he never used the term "e-cigarette". IMO once people hear "cigarette" they are already against it no matter the explanation.

I'm not saying I wouldn't educate them. But everybody knows what the e-cig is, why try to hide it behind a different name to make them think it's something it's not? If they say anything negative about it, then you explain how they are mistaken about what the e-cigarette is. I think it's better to do this than to try to pull a veil of deceit over their eyes and assume they know nothing about personal vaporizers and will take your word for what it is. We're on the same team, we just go about things differently. I'm not out to educate the world, I just want to live my life and help those who ask.

I find that the people I consort with connect the term 'vaporizer' with something that you smoke (rhymes with tijuana) with. I end up having to explain to them that no, I am not smoking (rhymes with tijuana). I think most of the time when I talk about it to people that are not in the know I end up saying the full "electronic cigarette" for some reason. eh, who knows.

I never knew this board had censorship software until trying to use the 'm' word!

...why try to hide it behind a different name to make them think it's something it's not?

That right there is the problem. When the average person hears "electronic cigarette", they automatically think it's something it's not. It's a lot harder to convince somebody of what something is when they have a preconceived notion already of what they think it is. They already are thinking of the negative connotations associated with smoking, so anything you may say just sounds like you are trying to make excuses for it.

The ecig/PV/steamer isn't like a cigarette. There is no burning, open flame, combustion, smoke particulate, or ash. The mechanics of it are closer to a humidifier than it is to a burning tube of ground up leaves and tar.

...why try to hide it behind a different name to make them think it's something it's not?

...why try to call it something it's not instead of calling it what it really is? It's a device that turns liquid into vapor/steam.

No sense debating this really. Everybody's going to call it what they want to call it. I seriously doubt anybody is going to change anybody else's mind. It is what it is, you call it potato, I call it dinner. *shrug*

I'm somewhat confused about this statement. We are in the subforum named "General E-Smoking Discussion", in a thread titled, "Dont call them E-cig's or Electronic cigarettes!", and you are saying there's no sense in discussing the subject of the thread?

It's pretty much the same as walking into a church and telling the people sitting there that religion is dumb and there's no point in what they believe in.
