Just thought I'd post this. I've been perusing this thread and since it is for New Users, there are alot of 'newbies' struggling to make the crossover. Although my friend, whom I introduced to e-cigs, immediately quit analogs on Day 1, it took me 2-3 weeks of getting used to my e-cig before I gave up my pack-a-day Parliament habit.

But here is something to bolster your efforts and remind you of why you are here. From hightlighthealth.com, here is what happens when you quit smoking:

In 20 minutes your blood pressure will drop back down to normal.
In 8 hours the carbon monoxide (a toxic gas) levels in your blood stream will drop by half, and oxygen levels will return to normal.
In 48 hours your chance of having a heart attack will have decreased. All nicotine will have left your body. Your sense of taste and smell will return to a normal level.
In 72 hours your bronchial tubes will relax, and your energy levels will increase.
In 2 weeks your circulation will increase, and it will continue to improve for the next 10 weeks.
In 3 to 9 months coughing, wheezing, and breathing problems will dissipate as your lung capacity improves by 10%.
In 1 year your risk of having a heart attack will have dropped by half.
In 5 years your risk of having a stroke returns to that of a non-smoker.
In 10 years your risk of lung cancer will have returned to that of a non-smoker.
In 15 years your risk of heart attack will have returned to that of a non-smoker.

So keep trying. Experiment with different flavors and nic levels, e-juices and carts. Make sure you're using the right technique. It's working for me and my friend and we're now LOVING IT!

10 years smoking got me a spontaneous collapsed lung with an ambulance ride to hospital, 3 surgeries, and 5 scars scattered across the left side of my chest.

And dear lord, you don't ever want to see a picture of your own lungs after 10 years of smoking, it still makes me feel ill. It does serve as a great incentive to never smoke a cigarette again though.

Can't find one. There were a few threads with links when it looked like NYS might make e-cigarettes illegal. (They are on vacation now anyway.)

One of the arguments of the antis is that there is no "proof" that e-cigarettes are less harmful than cigarettes. Maybe the combination of chemicals in e-liquid is *more* harmful than smoke. (Everyone roll their eyes in unison, please.) You are the first person I've heard who has clear, test results that show it works. Granted, one person is not a scientific sample, but it still shows something.

You should probably contact one of the CAASA members to see if your test results would be helpful.

True, Poeia, some of us will still be getting nicotine unless we switch to the 0nic juices or carts. But since we're on that subject, I've read enough info to believe that nicotine ALONE is no more harmful than caffeine. There's a great video on youtube, I can't submit the link but search "Electronic Cigarette - Dr. David Baron, M.D. - Part 1/2."

And there's plenty of doctors, researchers, scientists, and medical and scientific websites that all say "nicotine by itself it not a carcinogen". It is a naturally occurring substance, found in foods like tomatoes and eggplant. Just something more to think about. Myself, I am not concerned with being addicted to nicotine. Many people are addicted to caffeine and sugar for their little pick-me-ups, the difference is those things are "socially acceptable". Nicotine is and always will be, in my lifetime, associated with the dangers of cigarettes and so when you mention nicotine, people flip out without getting further info.

Nicotine is a vasoconstrictor and does raise blood pressure. Compared to all the garbage in cigarettes, that's a minor problem (and you can take medication to counter it.)

It is also a stimulant and a diuretic (caffeine is as well.)

I was simply pointing out that that list was made for people who quit smoking entirely rather than replacing the nicotine delivery system. The time frame might change if you are still inhaling stuff (PG, VG, flavoring, etc.) The "nicotine has left your system" points don't apply at all.

Nevertheless, getting rid of tobacco is clearly a good thing. And the list, while not as precise for vapers as it is for people who quit cold turkey, is a good reminder of the types of improvements your body can look forward to on this journey.
