So yeah, one of my 501 atomizers had the taste of "Bottle Top" from vaporbomb.com stuck it. (some flavors like cinnabomb will hang out in the atomizer, sometimes ruining the flavour of the next cartridge or two, as others have stated - desert ship does it really bad also, and since i don't like desert ship it makes it worse) So i decided to soak it in alcohol while we went to dinner. So when i came back and gave the container a good shake, the paint came right off! I hope the thing is still safe to use -no diluted paint or what not- (the only other one i have at the moment is dedicated to cinnabomb since it's flavor does the same.) Oh well, just thought someone else could learn from from my mistake.

I think it was the amount of time you left it in the alcohol...5 minutes max, dip and drain the alcohol until it comes out in a stream instead of drips from the battery end and it should be squeaky clean. Cozzicon has a great video on it here:

I've read elsewhere that someone left their atty in too long and the paint came off....word to the wise.
BTW...works well with pure grain alcohol too. I have 2 black matte attys, no problems with paint coming off....just don't leave it in too long.

Hi guys,

Yes there have been some reports of paint being removed. I haven't been able to duplicate this. I'd like to be able to identify in what situations this happens.

My suspicion is that this happens with knock-off atomizers. But again.. I haven't been able to reproduce the issue.

I still stand by this method though.

I have to report this happened to me also--twice. I can't positively identify them as genuine Joye; all of mine were from two starter 510 kits I bought, one locally, the other from Hong Kong. They were mixed up, so I don't know which was from which kit. But I soaked all four together overnight, and two lost their paint the next morning.

The inference you could draw is that two were from a knock-off kit, but the evidence is circumstancial.

There are different types of coatings Joye uses. The white and black paint on my 510 attys survives days in PGA. The "Platinum" finish on my eGo couldn't survive exposure to PG. The black eGo feels like a sort of plasticine rubbery coating similar to the platinum finish, so I'm just waiting to see how it lasts. I recently got a couple new copper colored Joye 510 attys, and plunked them into PGA to rinse off the primer fluid, and they're fine after a few days in it.

The paint on all of my attys has chipped off. Not all of it. Just some making it looks spotty. I don't soak any of my attys in anything not even water. And I haven't ever cleaned a few of them. As for the others that I HAVE cleaned- I rum them under hot water for 5 min and let them dry in front of a blowdryer on the cold setting for 3 min.

I tried this last night, it works like a charm.

I didn't have this problem the first time I soaked. I soaked them 2 nights later in 70% Isopropyl Alcohol for 5-10 minutes and had my platinum atty start to lose its top coat (around the cart end). It is genuine joye as well, so it can happen. I have since switched to vodka because I kept thinking I was smelling the iso in my vape (probably my mind tricking me).

Nah... Isopropyl Alcohol evaporates completely. And there's no way it would not instantly vaporize off the atomizer with any heat at all.

Like I said it was probably in my mind :) I think it gets the thing SO dry though that I was smoking the wick. I had to prime the heck out of the atty's after the drying time to get them tasting normal again.
