Could be really dirty mabe?
I own a riva and I can tell you you really need to clean the threads on these things like twice a week and the charger because they get gunked up easy and can't be good on the charger or bats. I use a paper towel/q-tips and alcohol. I worry about loosing bats also and only have 2 but do have a back up volt.
