I've tried a couple of dragon coils...you need to make them nano-coil sized to really get the jet effect. I get a nice smooth vape with tons of vapor but I don't get the flavor I get from a standard micro-coil or a 3/4 wrap of Mundy's Magic. I do eight wraps around a paperclip that ends up in the .8 (ish) range.

I don't do well with "paperclip" denominations. I just calipered what I think to be a "standard" size paperclip. It seems to be about 1.1mm. I figured my build at .95mm would squeak me into proper "nano" territory.

I would concur with you, CM . . . . it's "a nice smooth vape".

I did enjoy the benefits of watching the steam jet out the two ends. (Raaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwr . . . . tee-hee). :)

Okay...I'm running some dual itsy-bitsy coils (smaller than wee coils but larger than mega-super-small coils) of 14 (or so) wraps of 28ish gauge at 1.2 ohms nominal but .6 ohms actuarally on my Cyclone with AFC.

Taste and vapor are pheramonal.

So...like...wow...yeah.

So, what are you saying, Moses? Just gotta get smaller and morer?

oh, and pics . . . . . pull the cap and shoot it . .. . I insist.

I'll play.

Dual 14 wrap 28n on little push pins. ID? Dunno.

Made me giggle like a little kid. I get the whole "dragon" reference now.

I set my air hole to line up where the coil is breathing vapor.

Throat hit and nic punch are insane. Sweet flavors are completely mudded over with base notes.

I can see why this is such a popular build. Clouds are dense. Very dense. I may play a bit more with this in a couple weeks after the wedding, but unless i find a way to wake up more balanced flavor, it'll be just another chunked idea.

Maybe a dragonslayer can teach this old monkey a new trick or two?

So... In all fairness... I've continued using this setup since last night.

I believe PFC McGillicutty's problem area has actually caramelized the diaper. This build seems to have a seasoning process. It has gotten quite a bit better.

Off to work....

Oh how I am going to laugh if he shows up today!

I set up a new coil in the same way as pdib and monkey guy did, ie between the posts and also bought some organic cotton balls from cvs. I think i like the yarn as the wick better, but i need to set this up with the yarn before i make a decision.

The cotton wick seems to make the vape wetter and slightly harsher, though that may be the position of the coil...

Yes. My posts are drilled out because I use Mundy's Magic wire 99.99% of the time now. The larger holes are perfect for the larger wire. Not so much when I try to play w/ smaller wire now. I have to get creative with the legs to make sure they stay in contact with the post because they are loosey-goosey in the holes. An easy fix... just need longer screws, but that requires more effort than just using the wire I prefer ;)

Done and done. 28 awg with 14 wraps on a push pin for .4 ohms. Dual jets out of both ends like x-ray bursts from a neutron star.

Clouds...and too much nic even at 6mg.

Trying for a center shot here...and failing.

This comment caught my attention. I've built a few of these sub mm coils and messed around with it a bit. I've made a few that were definitely lacking in flavor. I've got a go-to now that didn't take that much tweaking to get to. I decided to try to recreate yours the best I could with what I had on hand. All I can say is that that coil sucks. I did not like it at all. I took some pics. I did this last night, but my camera battery died before I finished and it was late. I ended going to bed before getting around to uploading and posting.

I wrapped 28gauge Kanthal (no nichrome on hand) for 14 turns around 1mm drill bits. Looking at the pictures now, I think your coils might be tighter than that.

With this setup, I could not believe how the flavor disappears. There is vapor for sure, but I wouldn't want to waste my juice with this.

I have discovered that the less is more approach that works for wicking micro coils works for these smaller coils as well. I usually use very little cotton, just enough to touch the bottom of the coil and the legs, leaving most of the coil exposed. I've found that it improves the flavor of the juice without loosing the vapor production. In fact, there might be a slight improvement in vapor (Not positive, it could just be the improvement in flavor tricking me into thinking it is chucking more vapor). So I tried it the way I would have wicked it...

...and the verdict is that it still sucks. The flavor improved a little, but not enough to ever try this set up again.

I pulled that garbage off and rebuilt the coil I normally use. Please try this one or something similar and let me know what you think. This is 6 wraps of 28 gauge Kantal on a 1mm precision screwdriver.

This is how much cotton I use under the coil.

My camera died before I could get any pictures of the wicked coil, so I'll just describe the procedure. I place the cotton across the back side of the posts, opposite the coil side. I push the cotton from the center with a precision screwdriver through the middle of the posts and underneath the coil, making sure it contacts the whole underside of the coil. The rest of the wick gets tucked under the legs. The cotton should be just enough to tuck under everything without a bunch hanging out in the cup. I'm shooting for just covering the underside of the wire without any bunching up on the deck. That is what I run when I run a PID set up. Please give it a go and let me know if that improves the flavor and performance of this set up for you.

Thanks for the pics, CM!

My posts are drilled out too. There's a great thread in this forum with the RM2 completely disassembled. You don't need to do that to drill out the posts, just unscrew the negative (closest to squonk hole) and the positive should be tall enough to get at in place.

I'm plumb out of patience for trying new coils when the Mundy hits so sweet. Pro'ly get feisty soon enough. Not looking for something better anymore, tho. . . . . . found it.

I think part of what's missing on your setup may be airflow. Is at least one of the coils set up directly in front of the air hole? For me the smaller diameter coil set up so that air passes directly through the center is what makes this an interesting combination. What I've found is that my fruity menthols taste really good but I agree...sweeter flavors are lost....I can barely taste my absinthe.

I have discovered that the less is more approach that works for wicking micro coils works for these smaller coils as well. Yes, I've found leaving the top of the coil exposed does improve flavor...but it also increases TH which I don't like.

Thanks for the pics, CM!

I'm still experimenting with Mundy's. What's your favorite wrap?
