Dripping with a Provari Good or Bad?

Good Evening All,

1. Is it bad to use a dripper on a Provari V2?

2. Running a King mod mech using a Plume Veil and VTC4, what watts setting is used for Steam Engine?

Background
I have been vaping for shy of two years now. Currently pretty stable with the Provari and Tesla, both running Nautilus Mini's. I started getting into coil building a couple months ago. I have built some coils for my Trident V1 and V2 drippers, but hate having to deal with the shared positive post, so picked up a Plume Veil. I got into dripping because sometimes I just feel like mixing it up, but tend to hate having to swap out the addy used - easier to swap everything or just swap out juice. Anyway, in the process I wound up picking up a Zen ZNA 50, which I usually run an Atlantis on - love the setup. Of course I love the Provari and Tesla with the minis too. Like I said, I tend to mix it up.

I was in the local B&M shop a week ago and the clerk stated that running drippers on my Provari V2 was a bad idea, so I picked up a King Mod mechanical to run the Plume Veil on. The dual coil 28g .55 ohm build worked, but ramping time is annoying to no end. I read a post stating use 30/32g, but now I can't find it to see which one to use - I had to order the wire as it isn't carried locally. Was the clerk correct, that it is not a good idea to run a dripper on the Provari? Additionally, the King Mod is using VTC4's. What is the wattage output for use in Steam Engine? I am sure it is simple, but having a blonde moment with it. I am used to the volt reading. I never used the power reading for the Zmax or Provari. I ran all the sticks, so to speak at 3.8 volts. I am just starting to see it from using the Zen, but only run the Atlantis on it at 15-20 watts. Speaking of which, loved the write ups for Steam Engine State O Flux.

Thanks.

1) No, it just means you're limited to the Provari's amp rating, which I believe is 3 or 5 amps. Because of this, sub-ohming isn't really an option. If you're trying to blow competition sized clouds, a provari just isn't gonna cut it. You'd be much better off throwing that plume on your mech or ZNA50.

2) Don't worry about the watts setting. The only place you can input watts on steam-engine is when calculating heat flux, at which point you'll have to figure out the wattage based on your build (Resistance in Ω) and the voltage (4.2 on a mech with a freshly charged battery) in an ohm's law calculator. In fact, other than for heat flux, your hardware doesn't matter for steam-engine. A 10 wrap .5Ω coil is going to be a 10 wrap .5Ω coil no matter what you put it on :p

Thanks for the reply Dissonance. I do run the Plume on the Mech, but didn't figure out the watt setting until a couple hours ago - hours after posting.

I have no intention of participating in cloud chasing. With that said, I do love the cloud output from the Atlantis on my Zen, running at 15/20 watts. I would settle happily for a dual coil build producing a cloud in-between this and what is achieved from a 3.8 volt draw on a Nautilus Mini. 34 gauge died within an hour. 28g is working fine, as long as I overlook a serious ramp time both ways. The 34 gauge is too small to deal with, as I can't see the wrappings - no magnifying glass. I finally got my 30g and 32g wire in, but not sure which to use or what resistance to shoot for with the Mech.

The Atlantis running at 15 watts is great. Running at 20 watts is about as warm a vape as I care to use. The B&M shop employees all wind up telling me the Atlantis is rated for 30-40 watts. This might just be because running it at that wattage means the prebuilt .5 coil will die sooner. I bought the Zen ZNA50 and the Atlantis a month ago. Still using the same coil without any issues. Hence the 30/32 gauge wires. I have 28 and 24 as well - all Kanthal, of course.

I agree with the 10 wrap .5 ohm coil example. However, I use Steam Engine to find out how many wraps/resistance for building my coils. I started using the Heat Flux area in order to find out in advance if the coil was worth building. If I knew then what I know now, I never would have build the 28g .5 ohm dual coil build as it is an extremely slow coil set to ramp up. With a better coil set I could be finished with the draw before that build was even ramped up? lol Of course, it would have been a totally different story if I popped it on my Zen, but I tend to just leave the Atlantis on it. That reminds me, I have to get the larger tank glass for the Atlantis. I elected to wait on it last month.

I am shooting for around ten wraps as there is more surface area. Just have to figure out what resistance and gauge wire for the optimal vape for my wants. Dual coils are required as well.
