So I just got a Forge dripper, and want to rebuild it with cotton and a microcoil. When I was using it with silica and a standard coil, it was easy to tell when the wick was getting dry because the flavour would disappear and the vapor would be harsh – so then I drip 7-8 more drops, and go back to beautiful vaping.

Now with cotton, I know you shouldn't let it get dry because it will burn and be good for the trash. Does this mean I need to frequently pull off the top cap of the Forge and check it's still moist? Seems like a bit of a PITA if that's the case.

Thanks for any help guys.

Hi Lukewheeler. In my experience, you'll notice with cotton too. The vape will get lighter and flavor will be less - all well before you reach the point of burning the cotton.

It might take a few tries to get right (I used to pop the top off my rda all the time to check) but you'll soon dial in to what your dripper is telling you. Even if you get it wrong and get a burnt hit, you'll learn fast, burnt cotton tastes down-right nasty.

You can only stick with one e-liquid flavor though. You would have to change the cotton in order to use another flavor.

I dont change my cotton out with each new flavor. I do try to stick to similar flavors, like fruit with another fruit. You can still taste the old flavor slightly but it will go away after a few hits. I change my cotton out about every 2 or 3 days.

You could change it out after every flavor though since cotton is dirt cheap.

The vape will get a little warmer whenever it is getting close to being dry and I do not have to swap out cotton between flavors unless there is a very stubborn one in there and then I just vape it mixed and it soon disappears. I am a fan of the nano coil with a cotton bed underneath.. Personally it tastes much better than having a wick through the actual coil itself.

I did a microcoil. It came out at 1.7ohms, so not bad. At the minute the scare of the cotton going dry by surprise isn't worrying me, because right now the cotton is soaked and it's putting out very little vapour and flavour. Any ideas why? It's a solid coil and I've just tucked all the cotton in the well... too much cotton maybe?

To much cotton is a common mistake. The good part is that it's easy to pull some of it out.

What are you driving the coil with? If it's a regulated mod, what is the voltage? If it's a mech, what kind of battery?

I've tried both – 10W on my Vamo and in an Origin mech with a fully charged Efest 18650.

Roger that. Will amend later and see if it helps!

    Thanks guys.
