Dry burn?

I see this term used all the time, but I can't figure out exactly what it is. I searched through the forum but there are literally hundreds of pages that contain the term. After searching trough many of those, I found the word being used but not how to do it. Can anyone help?

It means holding the button on a manual battery ecig and letting it heat up for an extended period without any juice in the atty. It's one way to burn off any residue build up on the coil.

How long is an intended period? I had thought if you had the manual button pushed for too long it would burn out your atty?

Using 3.7 volts which is what the atty is designed for most of them can stand a good 10-20 second burn. I tested a 510 atty one time with a 3.7 10440 battery and let it burn for 3 minutes and it never burned out. I made a video of it but I don't know if I still have it around.

If you remove the cartridge and blow in the atty while you're dry-burning it, it will stay cooler.
