NOTE: You will probably get none to very weak vape until the juice replaces the water in the wicks. Takes me about a dozen puffs without inhaling to start getting good vapor again.
excellent breakdown, spider.
i will add that dry burning at a lower-than-normal voltage should help to not pop the coil.
also, for a head that is severly gunked, you can soak it in vodka overnight to help break down the gunk and make dry buring easier/quicker.
Remove the loose wicks that sit on top of the coil (if they are there).
Now you will see the coil.
Attach a battery press the fire button for no more than 5 seconds.
Release the fire button and allow the coil to cool for 10 - 15 seconds.
Press the fire button again for no more than 5 seconds then release.
Eventually you will see the coil begin to glow.
Continue pressing and releasing the fire button until the coil glows an even red/orange color.
Thoroughly rinse again to remove all the burnt ash (if you forget to do this you will get a nasty taste for a while).
Replace the loose wicks.
Replace the air tube being sure to press it down straight and firmly.
Replace the little gasket.
Fill the tank (be sure to wash it out, too).
Attach the head and battery.
Vape.

Thanks Spider! Do you by any chance have a link to a video that may show this process? Just so I can have a better understanding of the parts you are referring to.
The loose wicks in mine started becoming frayed so I've started using cotton binding string. I use 6 of the 8 threads in the string.
Don't dry burn the cotton, just replace them.
