Dry burning???

First off I have an evod. Everytime I dry burn I always get a burnt taste.
I clean the replacement heads in hot water then proceed to dry burn.

Then the bad taste comes and I stop using the heads.
I have watched many videos and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Am I dry burning to long maybe?

Any help would be awesome

perhaps to long a second is all I used to do it for while blowing on the coil. I do not dry burn at all anymore when they get gunked up I soak in everclear to dissolve the gunk. But I kept burning out my heads as well it is one of those things that some people swear by and some just do not see the point

I have heard that before but I don't drink and don't want alcohol in the house so that's out for me but I have heard of using some form of rubbing alcohol but I always forget to pick it up at the store.

Yeah I am. Not as much as before the dry burn though.

I do not drink liquor but grain alcohol is about the most pure thing you can get I only put stuff in my vape that I would not feel like I should call Poison Control if I accidently ingest

How long are you using the heads?
Is it the coil or the wick itself that is burnt?
Dry burning is done in short pulse's until the coil glows red, eventually the head will need to be replaced regardless

My first attempt at dry burning coils was a disaster. What I eventually figured out was I wasn't doing it long enough. Sure, I'd pulse the coil a few times, but all I was doing was knocking the gunk loose but not really burning it off. Then when I tried the head again, all I got was a god awful taste that I wouldn't wish on anyone.

So I took the head apart (these were Protank heads), removed the flavor wick and actually observed the burning process. Once the coils burned cleanly and any evidence of gunk was gone, I then put 'em back together, gave 'em another rinse and put 'em back into rotation. I'm much happier now, as heads are lasting even longer than before.

A couple of weeks.
Nothing looks burnt.
I have done about 2 second pulses until the wick and coil look clean.
And I do take out the flavor wicks to view the coil while doing the dry burn.

You may be extra keen to the taste. Try rinsing after the dry burn, then just a quick dry burn to get the last of the water out.

If that doesn't work for you, you can use white or cider vinegar to soak the gunk off, 30 mins to an hour should do it, then rinse and let them air dry.

I have an MT3 (large evod) that gave me an odd taste after the second dry burn. I heard of boiling things long ago but I never needed it before since what I was doing worked. This time everything else failed, so I tried a 2 minute boile just a few hours ago. Bad taste gone.

After dry burning, submerge the head in a bowl of water and tap it several times to dislodge any ashes. I'm guessing that there are still ashes somewhere on the head which wasn't rinsed off.

You'll be able to see the ashes in the bowl of water when you tap on the head.

It is if you can do it right. I have yet to have anything (including kanger though my evod only needed a very mild adjustment) that I didn't need to adjust in some way to make it right, so why not just rebuild them.
