Dry firing titanium

Hi there. Just a quick question.
Can you dry fire a new titanium coil build if you are in TC mode at 200 deg C before wicking. It would be to check for hot spots etc. I know that too high a temp with titanium will produce something nasty but I'm assuming dry firing in TC mode would be okay.
I'm using a new Jac Vapour 75W dna mod that I just bought because it is supposedly good at temp control.
I do have SS316 wire but I thought to use TI because its change of resistivity against temp is greater which would lead to better accuracy. I could be wrong of course....lol

Any thoughts on this please.

At 200℃ the coil won't glow so you won't catch any hot spots. I know that some set up a special tcr that lets the coil get hot enough to mildly glow but but not hot enough for the coil to produce anything dangerous. Unfortunately I don't have any detailed information to provide.

I don't know what the specific temp is but if you get any white flaky stuff on the coil it is then trash.

Yes. The point is to have the coil firing hot enough to catch hot spots but not so high that you'll produce anything dangerous.

Tried Titanium once and didn't like it because I couldn't dry fire it and check the glow without trashing it to a gray dusty coating. That was before TC mode appeared on mods.

SS316L has become my go to wire because it's so cooperative and robust (and TC compliant). I don't have testing results to compare, but it's stable and repeatable in heat and vapor production, and that's what I'm looking for.

200 deg C

200°C is almost 400°F and I have fired SS316L like that to check for Hot Spots.

I think you are going to have to find the magical sweet spot before it gets white and chalky, is there a reason you are using titanium, do you prefer it to SS? I have never vaped titanium so I'm curious...??

Titanium is supposedly more precise in TC mode then SS316. It also has lower resistance per ft then SS. Whether I would actually notice the difference at all is different matter. But I guess I could at least say that I tried it.

That's interesting and I can agree with that as far as SS coils that I vape in temp mode tend to have fluctuating resistances, which I did just assume was a property of the wire... Thanks Skreech.

More than welcome. If you go to the wire wizard part of the Steam Engine app, there is a TC Precision line in the results box. Try different wires and see for yourself. You can also see the resistivity curve.

When I used TI I always built spaced 24ga and got the wire just hot enough to burn the oil from my fingers off the coil before wicking. It's rare to get hot spots on a well built spaced coil.
