Hi All

I was wondering why ecigs havnt really took off in the UK yet ? Such a big invention surley should have people kicking down doors for these things ? I really thought these would be selling in shops by now considering £££ potential !

I am at the moment the person i know using one of these, ive shown people but most have just took the pi** !!!

Any ideas anyone ??

I've only so far used mine in public in my local pubs. The landlord of one was interested in selling them (don't think he got around to it though), and a few weeks later there was another person in there with a penstyle. I've also had people come up to me and ask what are they and where can they can get them, so I point them in the right direction ;)

That said, I've mentioned it to a few people, strangers, who've looked at me a bit oddly to say the least and then didn't seem to dare ask more about what I was talking about, LOL!

When I first came to this forum (Dec or Jan, before actually joining), it seemed to be a pretty much equal mix of Brits and Americans. Now seems to be far more Americans than Brits. So maybe Logan's right in that it's still not yet known enough in the UK? We certainly have far fewer suppliers than the US does now. I guess the UK suppliers would have a better idea of how many more people there might be who know about it nowadays.

I also seem to remember that at one point someone said some branches of Boots were selling some kind of e-cig.

At the same time, I don't know what the advertising laws would or wouldn't allow here.

I bought my first e-cig in Oct, having read about it in the papers, a Gamucci Micro. It stopped working within 2 days and was a complete waste of time other than to give me an inkling that the idea of an e-cig might work. At that time, I knew nothing about it, and nearly gave up till I found this forum. So, without all the valuable info on this forum, would people buy one, wonder why a cart does not equal a pack of fags, wonder why an atty stops working after X days and so on, and then give up on it as I nearly did? After all, let's face it, the manuals that come with a starter kit are mostly pretty rudimentary and useless!

Same here: this forum has done a lot to keep me going.

I was lucky in that the first e-cig I bought was a DSE901, and it still works (!) I quickly changed to penstyles though and have now graduated to an e-cigar (the Screwdriver is next, I'm sure).

Our landlord lets me vape in the pub, but neither he or his wife are interested. Reaction from other smokers varies from mild interest to open hostility. I know of one vaper who maintains that the Super is the greatest thing ever but reaches for his fags whenever we are outdoors because the thing constantly runs dry (lol). Very few, if any, seem to know about juice and dripping/topping up cartridges.

So, much less interest overall than I had hoped for, but on the other hand we don't face a pending ban (yet).

The specialist tobacconist in Nottingham city centre sells them, 901s or equivalent, and cartridges too. I just popped in today to buy some carts, 10 for £6.85 as my carts were getting a bit chewed up...so they are available, just got to look for 'em. Also, two colleagues have bought starter kits since I took up the evil atty :)
Having said that I use e-cigs wherever I fancy, and anyone who has noticed (the vast minority) have just scratched their heads in incomprehension. I think they are still a niche hobby here and I'm fine with that as long as I can get supplies. The minute The Man notices and spots a taxation opportunity, a lot of the fun will go. You know how NuLabour are for nannying and party-pooping.
Just my two-pennorth.

Yes, there is no chance I would have stuck with vaping if it wasn't for finding this forum...the reliability of the equipment and the problems would have made me far too fed up with it. It will never take off on a big scale unless people find this forum or else know a forum member.

I don't think our low profile is going to help. It will likely be banned BECAUSE no-one has heard of it. Just nodded through 'cos the other countries have done it- they will think ah well won't affect anyone here in Uk will it...?

Best,

C.

I see your point, but respectfully disagree. Whether it aaffects anyone here in the UK has no bearing on whether they'd try to ban it...they've banned plenty of things which have had numerous and vocal support. Whereas if it hasn't really come to their attention then what do they care? Why would they p*ss on my bonfire if they haven't even noticed the smoke (sic).

Like I say they ban a lot of things...and a lot of things still get done.
Can we make it crisps not choc? Not really mad keen on choc. They could ban that...

OK - this could get me into serious debt...
TO RBHB X flavour LARGE bag of crisps, if vaping ain't banned by....Dec 2013. (The month I retire - I shall be able to hitch hike around the world to ban free destinations and not have any more hassle at work.)
TO Pete X flavour LARGE bar of chocolate, same conditions.

To ME if it IS banned, from each of you One care package of 15mls, nah that's not fair. Same deal, crisps or choccy, I can tolerate both...

Deal?

C (not a gambler normally, must be the Riskee juice!!!!!)

PS No more bets thanks, folks. Pensioners with pensions like mine will be can't afford this sort of stuff!!! I'm hoping to lose of course....

What sort?

Hehe...

Tho' I just die inside at the awful idea of a ban.

C.

As long as it's choccy I don't care what sort it is....yum.

Yes I am certainly concerned about any possibility of a ban here in the uk ...now that I have had the pleasure of feeling all the benefits of being a non smoker without any of the pain, I really don't know what I would do. Vaping is a bit like having your cake 'and' eating it.
Oh by the way I originated in kent.....but I never found out if I was a kentish man or a man of Kent...we did have a Man of Kent pub in Rainham so I guess I must have been a man of kent. Heaven knows what the difference is though....lol.

Yes. Exactly. Dunno either. Not smoking ever again.

No idea. Don't think I ever listened properly to the explanation!

Hmmm, I'm a bit partial to those Sainsburys tooth-hurtingly chunky Salt 'n Cider Vinegar ones...they have the traffic light danger warning at 4 reds and an amber, so they must be good ;)

Winnings (which we are both hoping I won't have to pay)...your choice.

Shall send to Sainsbury's for them in Dec 2013, if they still exist!!!

Well, a bag of Quavers will do me.

Seriously will weep into them...
