the redirect was some kind of online pharmacy selling e cigs for me

Same?

I think so. I hit stop before it fully loaded though. Opened Google again and it did the same thing.

I've seen Google get hacked quite a few times . . . it may have been some rogue hacker trying to drum up business for that site. Sometimes hackers will do it just to realize traffic counts, increase hits, etc . . . I'm not really worried about it. Google is usually pretty quick to fix that stuff, and it is only an inconvenience for us, no virus issues.

So, Freaky, you think it was Google, and not ECF that was hacked? That's pretty freaky! But, yeah I'm sure they've got the talent on hand 24/7 to nip something like that pretty quickly.

FWIW, I didn't witness any of the strangeness. But, I don't enter ECF via Google (that seems odd to, except for visitors stumbling in).

I've hung out in some chat rooms and forums, and have witnessed some pretty impressive stuff. Most of it is harmless though. Mostly manipulation of search results, website traffic overloads to cause shut downs, generating false news reports, etc. The worst thing that somebody messing with Google could do, is to redirect you to a site that has a virus, but that's easy to avoid if you never click anything. It really did resemble either a Google error, or a hack on them.

This is probably a site hack so our coder will look at it. It's happened before, one of the plugins is vulnerable - the coder cleans the infected files then patches it. We regularly get a report like this from one or two people, and in that case it's a local problem for them - but when it's hundreds, like now, then we have to look at the site. It has happened, once before.

So, I'm not crazy. Well, let me rephrase that. So, I wasn't crazy when that happened to me at work today.
