Hello, all! I've been vaping for a little over two months now, and lurking around here for even longer. This forum really is the best resource I've found for everything e-cig related, so I figured people here would have some good insights on this topic.

I was chatting with a friend who's been working at an e-cig retailer for over two years now. We started discussing PV models, and he claims that 510s/eGos are overtaking all the others, and that their popularity will probably lead to the obsoletion of other battery/threading types. The shop he works at deals almost exclusively in eGo equipment, and he says that in all the time he's worked there, only a handful of customers have come in with different models. I use eGos myself, and I definitely get the impression that they've become an industry standard- all of the dedicated vendors in my area sell them, every fellow vaper I've seen in public seems to be using one, and it feels like joyetech rolls out a new variant every month! Another friend of mine switched from 808s to 510s recently because it's so much easier (and often more affordable) to find equipment for them, both online and offline.

But I know that there are still plenty of dedicated users for the other styles out there, and I'm sure they'll have different views. For all of the eGo-centric (ha) retailers I visit, I know that there are probably just as many vendors out there who focus on pen-styles or disposables. What are your thoughts?
From your perspective, is there an established or emerging industry standard for e-cigs?
Does it seem like certain models are dying out or becoming obsolete?

The main thing more than the battery is the threading used with 510 and EGO being far and away the predominant forms. It's the threading your battery has that determines what tanks etc. you can attach.

...Exactly!

Welcome to ECF! What's an 808? :D

Thank you :)
I meant the KR808D-1s; I've always heard them referred to as '808s', probably because it's less of a mouthful!

510 seems to be the standard. And ego is the most popular "next or upgrade" device beyond the cigalikes. Thats why stores sell so many of them. Even people who have more advanced APV's use an ego outside of the house. All of the MODS etc... are more tailored for the enthusiast/hobbyist and there will always be a market for them as well.

I have all 510 stuff but I think the KR808D will hang in there for some time.

The 510 was something that larger things grew off of but the KR808D has an advantage when it comes to the small stuff. Because of the difference in male female arrangement the KR808D automatics can better protect itself from juice leaks. I think their will be two standards for awhile. Notice the entry or gateway model has a lot of players using the KR808D. The KR808D might be a better small cig platform for quite some time with so many people starting out wanting an automatic.

For a cig-a-like, you aren't really going to beat an 808. After that though, the 510 doesn't have limitations anymore and has more options.

Even though I am loaded for bear when it comes to 510 stuff I might actually get a KR808 cig-a-like. They can be handy light weight platforms sometimes. It will not replace my Provarii but you can drop a little KR808 in the pocket awfully easy. I was going to try and avoid having both but maybe I will.

For me I needed something that wouldn't draw a lot of attention, and I could hang from my mouth when I drive, which is why I got a cig-a-like in the first place and not a jump to the mid-size or an APV right away. 808 cartos are great, but you really just can't beat their slim batteries which also work excellent with LR cartos. If you do pick one up, I'd say your top three choices would be the G6, Volt, or V2.

Before I found the forum I had tried V2, it was either the second or third kit I got then I found this place and went though a large amount of hardware and ended up with the Provari. I feel like I am going backwards but a cigalike has it's place. I was not too thrilled with V2's juice. I will either try G6 or Volt.

I noticed this thread as well.

So why did the 808s come about? Is there something better about them, and eventually in the future they may be the standard?

If I am not mistaken there was a 510 before the 510 that is talked about out here so much with very slight differences DSE510 if I remember that right.

If you look you will see that there were a ton of standards out there at one time and I think one might return from the dead.

The Joye 510 started out as a three piece cig-a-like to the best of my knowledge and still is available. The KR808 was made for cartomizers from the start.

It seems like Halo is out of all the starter kits... I have no more KR808 stuff anymore, I would I would have kept a little of it. I wonder if the hardware between Volt and Halo is identical? There are more colors in the Volt line.

They are in-stock of all the parts so you can piece it together, just not the actual kit.

You can use the G6 cartos on the Volt and the X2, and you can use the Volt cartos on the G6 and Triton. You can also use the Halo Mini-tanks on the volt I believe. The batteries are pretty much the same, however the Halo cartos can be re-filled much much more.

I decided to go Halo because I wanted to try the juice. I also liked the little PCC they have but they are out of those. I think that is way they are out of starter kits.

I will not use tanks on these. These will be pure cigalikes. I have so many 510 tanks it is scary.

Because I would use it as pure cigalike made me not worry about compatabiliy to much.
