E-Cig safety confirmed by Medical Study!

Oooo... very good find... combing through the Dublin handout I spotted this:

...Six puffs every 5 minutes would deliver the same dose of nicotine delivered by shallow inhaling (10 puffs of 35 mL per puff) from one tobacco cigarette every hour...

Uh, isn't there a decimal point missing on the 35mL? I read the report, and the decimal seems to be missing throughout - no way can one puff be 35 milliliters!

Or am I missing some obscure meaning of mL?

Thanks for posting this Nicfits, this is good news. Ruyan are claiming that their product is magnitudes safer than smoking and they can back that claim up with scientific studies.

We'll need this kind of evidence for all formulas and brands but this is a great start.

Absolutely.

For the hundreds of millions of smokers worldwide to have an alternative that 'works' that is hundreds of times safer is, well, almost a miracle.

To best get legislation passed to legalise vaping we do need to be careful not to make false claims (e.g. it's totally harmless; it's just water vapor, etc). It's already great news, no need to hype it. That would only antagonise people. Let's be up front, straight and honest.

yep. It's a shame we cant get the legislatures to comprehend this - that the lives it will save is vastly more important than the chance that some might start using them that otherwise wouldnt ever start using nicotine. (hope that made sense). Hopefully we can get them to see the light, before it's too late.

Smoking is and has been a special case; so the safer alternative needs to be considered in that light.

It's also worth pointing out that there is scope to further reduce, perhaps eliminate in some cases, these traces of toxins. The more we learn how they come about the more we can eliminate. We have full control of what goes in a juice. For example, getting a purer nicotine from tobacco, even if it means ditching the tobacco flavors, would be a big step, probably the biggest.

Temperature contolled atomsers (not too difficult) would also help a lot.

In theory, all the toxins could be eliminated. That would be impossible with tobacco.

I have read somewhere on this site that there are individuals "on-the-hill" who are vapers.

Might have been that they were smokers? Should have made a note...

Anyhow... are there any senators who vape? Or who smoke? Wouldn't they be more sympathetic to this cause? Now to just find out who those senators might be and contact them.

Obama smokes. At least he did, is trying to quit, has quit, etc. Stories have changed a few times.

Great find - this is good news...but it is also tinged with some trepidation....I'm not going to rain on the parade, but this is still a New Zeland Health study.....what happened to the "credibility" of the last New Zeland study?

If my crystal ball weren't broken, I'd say that the issues the FDA had with the original NZH study will come to haunt us.

I could be wrong, but suspect he's now a closet smoker. Since, after all, there's not supposed to be any smoking in the White House. I'd bet good money that you can frequently find him in the loo with the window open, sneaking a smoke.

That, or he's on chantix and considering that it can make the user insane, that should make things real interesting...

Actually, Bush lifted the no-smoking ban before he left office.

Okay, 35ml is a volumetric measurement....

millilitre (also spelled milliliter; symbol mL, ml, or mℓ), a thousandth of a litre (an SI unit of capacity):p

.... So, unless they are measuring the vapor cloud (I doubt it) 35ml would be one helluva draw on an e-cig. That would be more than an entire bottle of JC!8-o

I do not even see 0.35ml in a puff being possible....0.035ml...ummmm.... maybe.

Perhaps 35nl - 0.035ml which would be assuming 30 puffs/1ml cart; I've forgotten the context now. Maybe a 0.5ml cart.

What it might mean is the total air intake.
