I thought they would, at least, listen to the representatives and have some degree of open mindedness. I guess I was overly optimistic.

That Wasn't the Purpose of the hearing. It Wasn't a Fact Finding Mission.

It was a Staged Event to get Air Time being Tough on the e-Cigarette Industry. And to Garner Support from those who Believe that someone like Barbara Boxer is Saving your Kids from the Inherent Evils of the World.

Yeah, they always use the "We have to protect the children" ploy went they want to elevate themselves.

Like it or Not... That I'm hear for you to Save Your Children works for Many People.

And the Days of People Saving their Own Children seem to be a Fading Away.

BTW - I will say this.

I don't have a Problem with e-Cigarette Companies Dialing back their Ads. Or Removing things Like Cartoon References. Or Teen Idol Actors.

I Don't think it will Effect the Over-All Numbers of Minors Trying/Using an e-Cigarettes. But if will Remove the Stigma that e-Cigarettes are Being Sold to get Kids Hooked, so Be It. Ban All the Ads.

And let's get the Conversation back to what it Should be. About Harm Reduction to X-Smokers, Current Smokers and Future Smokers.

I'm OK with banning e-cig ads.

Vapers will spread the word in forums like this one and peer to peer like Facebook. That's probably the best form of advertising. The small businesses that sell equipment and juice can't afford much advertising. They would be able to better compete with the big companies like Blu and Njoy.

Barbara Boxer is an idiot !!!!!!!!!! Seeing how she likes to spout off you would think she would know know what she is talking about. Maybe she would come to this forum to learn about the actual people using this product. Wow, ignorance in abundance fills that room.

Barbara Boxer is Not and Idiot. She Knows Exactly what e-Cigarettes are and do.

But where the Evil lies is Her Ability to Turn Her back on the Vast Good that e-Cigarettes can do. She is just using e-Cigarettes to Grandstand. And it matters Little to her if Everyone has to go back to Smoking.

As long as She can Glean Support/Votes for herself.

There in lies the snake in the grass, "As long as She can Glean Support/Votes for herself." That is actually what they are all doing whether they are anti or pro e-cig. It's all about the votes.

What you saw during that Hearing was some Very Intelligent and Very Clever people playing on the Fears of the Uniformed General Public.

"I shouldn't even be touching this because it's poison."

Unless I have her mixed up with somebody else, that was pretty idiotic right there. Or at the very least entirely overdramatic.

Trust me. Barbara Boxer is a Very Intelligent Person. And a Master at "Playing the Game".

And that is what Politics have become in this Country. A Game.

From what I've seen of American politics, it's even more of a game there than it is over here. But hardly any party (we have a slew of political parties here) seems to able to deliver on their promises anymore these day. They promise the world at election time, but year after year our country is slowly getting worse. Most of our politicians appear as woefully incompetent or at least out of touch with the common man, even though their often prestigious backgrounds should suggest otherwise in the intelligence department. Those who seem down to earth and eager to make sensible changes are soon gobbled up by the red tape monster, or simply not do not receive enough support from the more conservative parties. Oh well..

Though the Dutch are notorious complainers and even though I often label our politics as ...., I still feel like I'm well off here.

I would call this last resort, but not something to self regulate on. As this is literally a propaganda war, then cartoons must stay. IOW, I think we ought to fight back on this. Adults like cartoons just like adults like flavors. Lots of data around to show that adults like cartoons.

Plus, as I noted in earlier post, this isn't about kids liking cartoons and if eCig manufacturers/vendors got rid of them, that would magically accomplish 2 things: a) kids would be less enticed and b) FDA/Congress would back off. IMO, just like usage bans, and flavor bans, rolling over on this would show opposition that we are ready to roll over on things. As in, "you readily agreed on cartoons being an issue, how can you not readily agree on flavors being an (even bigger) issue?" Which is precise reason to not roll over and to fight it forever and a day.

We can know among ourselves, and even openly discuss, that losing ads would be no big deal. But unless opposition (or say FDA) were to say, self regulate on ads and we will promise not to touch flavors for at least 5 years, then I see zero benefit in self regulating on cartoons.

With reality that cigarettes have ads greatly curtailed and ALA saying (on their current website) that cigarette ads are targeted to minors, I think this clearly shows that they will not ever stop with the stigmatization and will attempt to play the kids card forever and a day. Thus, no reason to roll over on items and give them what they are asking for unless curtailing as much freedom as humanly possible for eCigs is something you can, in principle, go along with.
