I am starting to get the feelling that I can't post on ANY quit smoking board without getting into fights.

When I see posts like this it just drives me crazy...
Use whatever method works for you to quit smoking, just quit forever and never take another puff.

Electronic cigarettes have already changed that game.

We OFTEN tell people to have a cigarette if they feel they need one.
We OFTEN tell them to take their time and just let it happen.

Why do we tell them that? Because it helps take the pressure off.
We tell them that because it works.

In the context of an electronic cigarette discussion, I can not tolerate seeing that not one puff ever crap.

So XBB, I am starting to wonder if I can even offer help on your board.

If someone is struggling with the switch to electronic, I am going to tell them to go ahead and have a smoke.
Then just get back up on the horse and keep moving forward.

Our motto here is that every smoke avoided is a victory.
That'd kinda how we do it around here.

I'm afraid there are people even on your board that aren't going to like that one bit.

This MAOI/WTA thing has REALLY got me curious.....

It's unfortunate that when Hon Lik was developing e-liquid, he relied on pharmaceutical nicotine rather than developing a whole tobacco extract containing the full spectrum of tobacco alkaloids.

I hope someone gets on the ball and develops it before BP does!

"use whatever method, no puffing" (my paraphrase)

With the state of affairs out in the wild being what it is currently, change will be slow.

Heh, took the feds 17 years for "Don't ask, Don't tell" to go from "hot button issue" to "um, this is a bit outdated, I mean REALLY...."

opposition to ecigs, nicotine use long term, and the (upcoming) WTA debate(s) will follow a similar path.

I'm working to shorten that 17 year span! :)

It seems that electronic cigarettes are a direct threat to many, if not most, cold turkey quitters.

It's no wonder we see such vehement opposition.
Cold turkey quits are often precarious and fragile enough without any external threats.

Based on the information he had at the time, it looks like USP grade nicotine was the only way he could go. As we have seen, it's a tough sell even with NRT-grade nicotine! :)

Good news is that all that has transpired since his original development will make generation of full spectrum TA that much easier to make reality.

With what I've been reading lately, it can't get here soon enuf, that I'll readily agree with!

You got that right DC...Even my board wouldn't be too thrilled to hear you say something like that.
That may be what you do here and that's fine, but I certainly wouldn't want to see you say that on my board. Would definitely not be cool.

It's a very different philosophy, to be sure. But, easy to understand, too. With other quitting methods, having that one just reinforces how much you miss smoking. With vaping, having one just reinforces how much better vaping is.

EETA: I'll be glad when my brain gets fully back online so I can elaborate more/better. I had an issue with medications a couple days ago and I'm still rebooting

:

Having tried vaping myself Randy, I have a pretty good understanding of what you say. However, it's still new to the majority of people and most of them still use CT or NRT's at this time.
You cannot blame a lot of people for not being able to grasp vaping as yet, as the main objection is still lack of approvals.

I don't blame them at all. Traditional Smoking Cessation philosophy has been in play for over 30 years at least, it isn't going to change quickly or easily.

Absolutely..and unfortunately even when it is accepted, there will always be this hardcore little group of oldtimers that still won't accept them.
From the posts I've seen on boards that's the sad reality.

And what might be an even sadder reality is how long it might take them to be accepted.
Not only are we treading uphill against decades of quit smoking philosophy, we are also fighting a lot of money and power.

Big Pharma is waging full-scale battle against electronic cigarettes.
And their paid cronies (ALA, ACS, AHA, TBFK, etc.) are pulling out every trick in the book.

They consider misinformation, misdirection, pseudo-science, and even outright lies as valid tools in this fight.
And they have far more resources at their disposal then we could ever dream of having.

Sometimes it gets a bit depressing, but every day it makes me angry.

...sadder reality...how long it might take them to be accepted.
Not only are we treading uphill against decades of quit smoking philosophy, we are also fighting (rich men who want more money) ..misinformation, misdirection, pseudo-science, and even outright lies...far more resources at their disposal then we could ever dream of having...Sometimes it gets a bit depressing, but every day it makes me angry.

Yes. Everything you say is very true, and can all be applied to basically every aspect of human endeavor that takes place.

Rich men want more money, and extermination of others is a proven and time-honored straight line between the wish to obtain more money and the presence of it in a numbered Swiss bank account or several.

Commercial cigarettes are just one of the many methods used to achieve this goal. The pope is Catholic and bears prefer to freshen up in a sylvan setting.

But even in the context of that dreary reality, good things happen, and we must take cheer from them when they do, (for that, too is a necessary ingredient of Resistance) and a very good thing is happening right here!

Just look! - we are all - including the person who committed a 3-part blogrant called Smoke When You Want To - able to talk to XBB about this, and no one is running screaming from the room, or hitting anybody else upon the head!

So instead of having people go over to XBB's board and inadvertantly displease some of the inhabitants so hard that their heads explode, we are all figuring out how we can all cooperate to make sure that the people who wash up on XBB's shores, who, in addition to what they get there, also need to get what they can get here will get it - like instant access 24/7 to thousands of people who know lots of helpful things about e-cigarettes!

This is progress, and it's invaluably valuable!

This way, if someone who needs to stop smoking but doesn't want to should plop onto XBB's head, or someone for whose medical issues cold turkey would be a bad fit even if they wanted to do it - or just someone whose journey is beginning with that timeless classic of a single step, "inform self re options," XBB will be able to make an informed and wise counseling call - will the person be able to benefit from both places, is it someone who just wants to read about e-cigarettes but almost as a formality, because she's already made up her mind she wants to go for acupuncture and a patch, or is it a person who is more likely to successfully break up with tobacco if they just come on over here and Smoke When They Want To?

And it goes two ways - we can all make our own choices about how we can most effectively help.

I never registered at the Quitistas because I wasn't sure I could be polite. I'm an incorrigible and unrecontstructible curmudgeoness who cut my internet forum teeth on Kashmir independence boards, the cyber-equivalent of well, parts of Kashmir, and now I'm 20 years older, several years' worth of sicker, and never mind how many daily pills worth of loopy, which equals roughly 473.6 googols' worth of DragonBich.

Yet the idea had crossed my mind that I might go over and sit in XBB's yard occasionally, and throw back any balls that bounced into my lap.

Don't worry, XBB, I won't - but that's my point! We all need to know these things, and understand, inasmuch as we can, all the different rainbow hues of philosophies and worldviews, because no matter what our own is, the more we know about the rest of them, the more help each of us - even people like me who are just beginning our climb up the learning curve - can give to people who need support, or are just informing self re options.

Which reminds me - My Progress Report! (because of course it's all about me) I put it in the Confused thread, but I think it got lost in the 1000 post confusion, which made me also forget to put it here:

In the past month, there were 8-10, 24-hour periods during which I smoked under a pack of Marlboros.

Hold that up next to the half-century of my pre-hookah-doodle, pre-ECF cigarette consumption, (which was so horrifying I'm not even going to type it, because I do not wish to be responsible for anybody falling over in a fit of apoplexy) and if there breathes a soul who would call this anything less than a miracle, I will not only laugh in your face, I am very likely to put my thumbs in my ears, make a face and chant "Neener Neener Neener" at you.

Smart Shaman is immensely pleased and declared that a whole bunch of stuff is already showing Significant Quantitative Improvement!

Oh, and before I forget - Thank You XBB! I you!

I don't disagree with this but I actually haven't tried it. Mainly because I don't want to buy a pack of smokes to end up wasting it or more importantly the money.

My epiphany came when I could stand by a smoking smoker and not want a cigarette. That's when I knew I was done and I cannot possibly express how exciting that moment was for me.

Gotta plug honeyville vapor, Perique Blackberry is AWESOME!

I think Honeyville may have hurt themselves a little with that last sale. I see those two threads in the general liquid forum have quite a few complaints. I also think the 89 cent sale was cheap enough.

Best wishes for getting back to normal speedily.

No but aren't they ok with referring people to ECF? Or am I remembering wrong? If they can be sent here they will get that philosophy here where it belongs (at least in the short term).

That's wonderful Miss lol! I can't tell you how happy I am to read that!

You make wonderful sense as usual but I just wanted to respond to your progress.

I've mentioned before that my wife and I tend to light one cigarette each about once a month. These come from the stock that we had on hand when our e-cig kits arrived. We have 96 cigarettes remaining so these should last us about 4 years, although they're going to be a bit stale by then. :)

Every time we try one we do indeed find them gross and disgusting, it's a great experience and one which always reminds us that we could never smoke tobacco again unless we really worked at it. Three puffs each is the most we've ever managed before stubbing them out. And the stench of the ashtray being washed up afterwards has to be one of the most disgusting smells known to mankind, I always hated that smell even when we smoked but now it is really puke-inducing.

If feel really sorry for the folk who have this "not one puff ever" mentality, I can have a puff whenever I like and all it does is reinforces the fact that I don't want to! I intend to light that monthly stinker until they're all gone, I don't look forward to it, it's more like dread or some weird kind of penance.

I don't reset my quit meter either. What a load of rubbish, beats me why those people are so obsessed by their meters. Apparently if you don't reset your quit meter after taking a drag on a smoke the earth will open up and swallow you and all your family and friends.

Hi to everybody!

Cheers
