Unfortunately your right. Many of the young do not remember when
BT had a lot of good science on their side. Yes that's right folks.
It was popular opinion that swayed the courts and congress not,
the actual science. The smear campaign and and cult of anti-smoking really
started steam rolling with the think of the kids stuff. This is why
every one and their sister and brother thinks smoking causes so
many diseases. In most cases there may be a casual relationship at
best. Grossly over stated at at worst.

"Meaningless" would be a better adjective than "important." Important for what reason? It's unlikely that they have any prospective evidence from humans showing correlation between their assay results and actual disease. It's just propaganda designed to look science-y.
