"Dr Carter said: ‘When the Foundation questioned more than 2,000 people about safe alternatives to smoking, more than half - 57 per cent - thought e-cigarettes fell into this category. This research shows they appear to be acting as a gateway for teenagers to take up smoking."

Is it just me, or is this a contradiction?! So, 57% say e-cigs are safer, therefore it concludes that this means it's a gateway.

Speechless. Unless I'm missing something fundamental...

Even though most of us have known about/used ecigs for years, only recently have they burst through the 'sound barrier' of public awareness. And we've seen the silly and the responsible in the developments here (a self-governing effect), but except for the rational individuals that are out there, most are shocked, by the rise of the appearance.

It reminds me when skateboards broke into the pubic awareness. Those same type 'we care about the kids' (think pouting lips and drooping eyebrows of sympathy and 'concern' ) or the puritanical types where 'kids were just having too much fun!':grr:

... and the solution was:

Takes all the fun out of it and actually makes it somewhat less manageable. Thankfully much of it was rejected.

The same argument can be made about anything really. like this: "When the Foundation questioned more than 2,000 people about safe alternatives to smoking, more than half - 57 per cent - thought Nicorette gum fell into this category. This research shows Nicorette gum appear to be acting as a gateway for teenagers to take up smoking."

Try your own substitutions and see how it looks. How about milk, fresh fruit, ANTZ propaganda :D

My local radio show was preaching the kids and vaping aspect and when a real vapor called in, they were dismissed quickly while the opponents for vaping were talked to for 5 minutes or so at a time. Amazing how when people or ignorant, the choose to go with it instead of actually doing factual research.

I am starting to think it's unrelated to e-cigs, the hate etc. I'm starting to wonder if they are buttering us up for a "fun" tax. If you enjoy it, it's taxed. If it saves your life and we lose revenue AND you enjoy it, heck yeah, it's taxed. Or banned. Banning seems silly if they can tax it though, unless BT are really in control

/despair

You do realize that song will now be ingrained in my brain forever!!!!

It's trash (the DM) but I always scout it out for a bad story about e-cigs and it never seems to let me down :D

Just read the second article - very good retort I think - although common sense approach seems to be lost on the haters

Dont despair Shaunie here's something to cheer you up:laugh:

The Daily Mail Song - YouTube yes I know I posted it before but it's catchy:D

& if that doesn't work for every stupid Glantz study that comes out there is always someone to counter it here
The Rest of the Story: Tobacco News Analysis and Commentary: Conclusion of New Glantz Study on Electronic Cigarettes is Junk Science
Courage my friend!
edit :love this
"correlation does not equal causation."

The problem is that Glantz will be read by 5 million readers and Dr. Siegel will get a few hundred visits to his blog.

I was thinking the same thing, especially locally to me. I played around with e-cigs years ago when the decent stuff was only available online. There were no stores dedicated to vaping, just the odd one that had a few disposables on the counter.

In the past year, there have been multiple vape stores opening within the city, but more importantly, market stalls selling Ego-T type kits including 2 batteries, 2 tanks, a charger and a generic no name brand of e-liquid. The packages as a whole don't even seem to be branded, but crucially they are priced pennies above a single pack of premium cigarettes. The traders on these stalls don't care how old you are, and they shift crates of them daily. Every vape shop I've passed has a minimum age of 18 to even walk in.

Most of the media over this side of the pond have concentrated on the ease of availability to minors, lack of instruction and careless use and storage. It's unfortunate that the ruthless traders, arrogant vapers who blow it in your face in restaurants and the media are spreading a negative image. Regardless, I don't agree on the suggested draconian rules that the government would like to see introduced. I would much rather just leave equipment and e-liquid in the care of responsible stores and online vendors, much like alcohol and tobacco.
