In 10 days or so I'll be mixing a lot of pre-made e-juice. My glass bottles arrived today, and I need advice on "temp labels" for these mixing bottles. Essentially, each will contain a mix of pre-made juice, kept in a drawer for about 3 weeks, then finally vaped. Labels need to be removable, and not leave any residue. The writing area doesn't need to be big, as all bottles will be assigned a number and 2 letters, and tracked in an Excel spreadsheet.

In the immediate future I'll be using these Post-IT removable labels shown in the photo. I bought these a long time ago and I doubt I can replace them. I need a cheaper solution, with at least 5 colors. Below is an example of how I'm using the ones I have.

Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks! Click the pic for larger image.

I use the ones from the dollar store for my glass and some Avery 8160 printed for the final plastic bottled juice. Both remove pretty easy if you tape over them. After a few weeks the tape will pull off with the label intact most times. Sometimes I get one that sticks but it's easy to scrape off with a fingernail. With plastic bottles it's even easier to remove as long as you apply tape over the top so they don't get wet. If they get wet it gets messy and a bit of Goo Gone helps take care of that.

I use small Avery labels covered with enough scotch tape to keep most of the water out.

The UC does make the tape hard to remove but I'm making them for myself so on they stay.

I scrape them off and Goo Gone them when I need an empty for something else.

Not what you're asking for but they are removable at 3 weeks if they don't bathe.

This came up before.

One poster suggested small colored rubber bands on each bottle. There are many colors available, and many more combinations of colors one can use to identify a specific mix/bottle. The actual recipe and other notes can then be kept on an index card or spiral notebook.

I like the rubber band idea.

Well, you all certainly do have some good suggestions. I've got to do a little more research, because there is a big difference between:

  • a bottle sitting in a drawer during the 3-6 week steep process
  • a bottle being used during a hot steep (or ultrasonic session)
  • a bottle used to pass juice to a tank
I happened upon autoclave tape last night. $$$$ stuff. But it stays put, up to 120F, and leave no residue. Might be good for the hot steep, water bath phase.

I think the rubber band idea might work for the last phase, along with a little scrap of paper with the bottle #.

As for recipes, bottle tracking, etc..I got a nifty Excel sheet that will automatically create bottle #'s, track dates, etc. Not sure what I am going to do with actual recipe data yet. But for sure, no paper will be used, my writing SUCKS ..., and I don't care to use paper products to record my notes, recipes, etc.

I use Post-it super sticky file folder labels removable adhesive, for all my freezer labeling. They peel right off with no residue. They are large and I am able to divide them into thirds and plan on using them on the bottles when I get my orders in for DIY. I got mine at my local Walmart. I am sure you can get them on the web too. Mine are all white and when I went to look they have color coded end strips now.
