I don't think there was anything confusing in the statement. Capitalism has turned is all egotistical, and we will only work if it directly benefits ME. Each would work, and contribute abiding to his ability. Each should reap according to his need
I'd we tried to insure a communist society, many of us would protest, and be less productive, until we realize that we are no worse, mostly better for it. The bourgeoisie would be the only ones negatively impacted, but they are NOT driving change, only funding it, which would be returned to the writing class. Within 50 years the capitalistic mindset will have faded and, if properly instituted I.e. A democracy as Marx suggested, we would be the better for it. Unfortunately every socialist society we know is also a dictatorship so we view this as an evil concept. But it is not socialism, but fascism that is evil and they are not required to coincide.

This begs the question is the dictatorship the cause of a socialist society's failure or does a socialist society lead to
dictatorship?
Apparatchik anyone? Who's more communist than me?

Let's all whistle a happy tune while socialism becomes the new norm.
what?

This has nothing to do with socialism, Marxism or the government at all.

This is the free market, in all it's glory. One company has decided that it doesn't want to insure something and so, if you want insurance through them, you don't sell to whom they don't want you to sell. If you don't like their decision, you are free to take your business to another company. Done and done.

I am all in favor of insurance companies deciding to do this.
And in fact, I'd be quite surprised if they don't all do it eventually.

That is free market in action.
Or it would be, if I was offered choices in a free market.

But then, I'm not generally a fan of insurance in the first place.
But when insurance is FORCED on me, then I have a problem with that.

Currently, my health insurance FORCES me to pay $50/month because I use nicotine.
And the government FORCES me to have said insurance.

And the government also FORCES me to have car insurance.
Even though I will never in my life CAUSE an accident.

I'll just leave it at that, because otherwise we'll be heading for the OUTSIDE.

What if all insurance companies move in that direction?

IMO, it has a little to do with socialism. Insurance companies get to dictate how liability works for them (and all their clients) when that comes across instead as gaming the system (usually based on politics) to control or even eliminate the means of production, toward a perceived social / public health goal.

That ball started rolling with the first lawsuit. Product liability insurance companies do not like seeing lawsuit happen. They'll make policy changes and requirements based upon that. The industry currently has some lawsuits focused on hardware. Not sure what kind of cascade effect this is going to have, but there will be one.

There is something called a commercial secret. Certain globally operating soft drink makers ( yes, them :) ) aren't gonna tell. 'Cuz their bottom line hinges on them knowing and the comeptition not knowing exactly.
So under certain circumstances, full disclosure can be circumvented. Especially when it would boil down to handing your outfit over to the competition on a silver platter...

Same goes for perfumers, cosmetics industry, etc, etc.

Most vendors in Europe got a non-nonsense statement somewhere on their website: Telling you clearly that flavours were originally designed for use in food processing (i.e. eating/drinking) and that you are on your own
when you decide inhaling them. Means : don't come whining to us when you are using our products NOT as intended. But then again, product liability isn't much of a pasture for hungry lawyers here.

Safe to eat/drink isn't necessarily safe to vape.
And we do have to take their word for it quite often that it's safe to eat in the first place.
Although if you watch it closely, every now and then, the odd food additive disappears.
Sometimes with a bit of a hubbub, sometimes very quietly...
Big Food has got even deeper pockets to 'play' the politicians and the media.

Not even talking about medicines. The list of already approved medications that got recalled or taken off the market or reformulated is a long one....

Concerning the long-term ( meaning decades ) effects of vaping we are indeed sailing in uncharted waters.
But noticing the immediate effects, that's a risk I am willing to take.

But as it's been said: It's a free market and manufacturers aren't obliged to sell and I am not obliged to buy.

If they want the market but don't want the potential legal hassle, they'll still sell. Through an intermediary where they can always pretend not knowing. Wouldn't be the first time for big corporations setting up 'inofficial' subsidiaries to handle the iffy stuff. If it goes wll, you make money. If it doesn't ... well, too bad, but we've got nothing to do with that outfit ... SOP.

So whatever it is, if demand for it is sufficiently high, it WILL find its way on the market...

The State - aka the new bourgeoisie. Magically free of ego and very kind to everyone.
And certainly immune to any sort of corruption.

They will be the same ones who will be deciding how much "need" a given person has.
Surely nothing wrong with that idea.

Dear Comrade,
I have determined that you have both the need and the ability to read John Locke. The Party has authorized me to send you the enclosed copies of his works, suitably redacted of course.
Sincerely,
Commissar BDH
