E-petitions don't work, do not rely on them!

MoonMan's comments are strikingly similar to the claims by e-cigarette prohibitionists who insist that there is no evidence or proof that e-cigarettes are safe or effective, that there is no proof that smokers can switch to e-cigarettes, and that there is no proof that e-cigarettes are less hazardous alternatives to cigarettes.

They're also similar to claims by right-to-smoke activists who insist there is no proof that repeatedly inhaling tobacco smoke pollution is a health hazard to smokers or secondhand smokers.

Bill, that's kinda stretching it a bit don't you think? Are you suggesting that we are going to be able to print off the E-Petition, hand it in, and suddenly vaping is without opposition? Let's face fact, an E-Petition is not a petition, they have never been accepted as such. I believe this to be the idea being conveyed by MoonMan. He never said that it would not be useful for some other means from what I see.

 There goes the demonizing again.

Good lord, I FULLY SUPPORT E-CIGS. I don't buy, use, mod and improve them because I HATE them - they are one of the best things ever invented IMO.

My claims have NOTHING to do with supporting any argument for or against e-cigs, tobacco, or anything else like that. My ONLY concern is the validity of e-petitions. Why do so few seem to understand that?

For one thing I am confident most of the people who have become aware on these forums is doing like me and many others and writing our senators politicians senate help cmte etc and campaigning any way possible. But this petition for some is a visual symbol of that united effort. Just my opinion though either way it is doing what it was intended to do and that is motivate so stop talking and get out there and do something guys :p !

You got it. All this talk about printing it out and sending it to as many people as possible...why? That's not going to do anything but waste paper.

It's not an officially accepted form of...anything. It's a stack of anonymous uncertified "signatures" that will mean nothing to the official that receives it.

E-petitions as an informational tool, fine. E-petitions as something to get the word out, great. E-petitions as something to be handed out as proof of anything, no.

Another point to put into perspective: With the SE lawsuit, one of the arguments is that while the FDA may have been able to pull the ecig from the market, there were steps that would have been necessary to be taken to do so. First, a public announcement they were thinking about this and that they Two, needed users to make their thoughts available to the FDA to make such a determination. Both of which they did not do.

This petition definitely represents many user voices and could be used in that way. It may have some bearing on the court case AND it has been sent to the Senate HELP Committee of which I know they did receive because a response was sent upon receipt.
