ecig burning my throat

I have two of the kangertech pro tank mini 2 tanks. They both worked great when I first got them a couple months ago. Now one of them hits way too hard and burns my throat after just a short drag. The other doesn't hit hard enough. It seems like when I change the coil they both work fine for like a day then they need a new coil or they won't work good. I have a Vision Spinner battery that goes from 3.3v - 4.8v. I always make sure to have enough liquid in them so the wick doesn't burn out and I don't take too long of drags. Please any suggestions?

My suggestion to you is to flip the rubber grommit that is on the Protank coil (it's clear and goes on the chimney of the Protank coil) so that the cup faces upward. I had the same problem as you with getting rashy throat hits. This seemed to make the problem go away and made the coils last a little longer. Protanks can be a tricky thing to get right.

First, as panda said, make sure you flip the rubber grommet around- it does make a difference... also, make sure what resistance the replacements heads are- the heads that come with the ProTanks are normally pretty high resistance (2.5 I think) but replacements can range as low as 1.8... you need to be sure you are not running a 1.8 head with 4.8 volts as this will burn most juices....

That said, what voltage you run also depends on the juice... I vape mostly fruits (apple, pear) and sweets (vanilla, caramel) and find that each has very different wattage needs... the fruits need less wattage, the sweets need more. Vape the fruits too high and they burn very easily, vape the sweets too low and they have little flavor.

You need to know the resistance of the coils then play with the voltages... dial the voltage up and take a hit- if it tastes burnt, dial the voltage down till you get a nice vape... or do it in reverse- start low and slowly try increasing till you get a burnt taste

mainly- experiment!! So much of vaping is trial and error- sometimes lots of errors but you will find it eventually!

Thanks guys I appreciate the help, I'll keep experimenting. I mostly burn fruit flavored juice and that one tank hits way too hard which burns my throat. The other tank I like better because its tastes better and isn't so harsh and doesn't burn my throat but I have to take a really really long drag to get a good hit. Any suggestions on how to get more vapor from this tank? Thank you!

look at the base of the coil unit, in between the contact and the threaded barrel is a gasket, those can get squished out of shape and tend to squish outwards.

Really long drag might be old age, or if this unit has always done this it might be a high resistance coil

The airflow in a protank, T-3 and EVOD flows through tiny holes at the top of the threaded barrel and down the inside of the tube to where the contact is then enters the contact, flows up the pipe, past the coil and eventually gets to you.

Any restriction in any of this will cut off air flow and making you suck like hell to get a hit.

The gasket can deform and mushroom outwards to block the airflow through the threaded body

you can trim the gasket flush with a razor knife or blade, but this will not last forever some PT gaskets are made of extra soft material and will just keep deforming.

The burned taste may come from several things, check the resistance which is micro engraved on the barrel of real Kanger unit If not there, it is not the real deal, toss it as clone PT heads just plain suck all the way around. You might also have burned your wick by firing it without sucking till the wick dried out and then burned.

Ah you are using a spinner so either a 1.8 of 2.2Ω head will do you, but remember thes are made in sweatshops by kids and slaves so you may have one that is way off, only way to tell is put it on an ohm meter.

The only thing I have to say about flooding is when your tank is almost empty, it warms up, point it down or lay it down flat until it cools and flooding probably will not happen.

It's late, I'm tired, I have written thousands of word about protank flooding, sorry but I don't feel like writing it all out again right now but you can do a search for it to learn why.

good night and good luck!

Truthfully as someone who has vaped, rebuilt and run protanks constantly for the most part of a year, the best advise I can give is to ditch them, buy an AGR+ load a Boge LR pre-punched cartomiser into it and see what you were missing for about the same price for the tank and less for replacements.

I now have 1 surviving PT1, 3 PT3s, 4 adapters for Aspire coils, 1 Aspire pyrex vivi-nova, 1 smok pyrex large window tank to fit same and half a dozen coils new in box, official ones for each atomizer and 2 spare PT2 tanks, and I am going to put them all up for sale at 75% internet average and eat the shipping so I can get another AGR+ some batteries and some other stuff, it has been a month and I have not felt like putting juice in a BCC in all that time.

I've also heard about flipping the rubber cap on the chimney upside down. I believe this was to keep the center tube sealed to the chimney while making the wick opening less restricted, especially for high VG juices that don't flow as easily. I've been using an 80% VG juice in a T3S and haven't had to flip this cap myself. Is the lighter hitting tank gurgling? It's possible it might need to be cleaned out. I suppose it's also possible you have coils that are two different ohm levels. Any chance you accidentally changed the voltage without realizing it? If there are no other apparent issues, I'd try adjusting the voltage lower on the harsh one and higher on the weak one.

What wattage are you using? Fruit flavors generally do better at lower wattages--try going down to 5-5.5 watts or so. Also, if your wattage is too high, you may be experiencing dry hits--not enough eliquid getting to the coil fast enough to keep it cool. Kanger generally recommends 5.5-7.5 watts. If your juice is very thick, it won't wick well, either. Try taking slow, deliberate draws rather then quick cigarette drags. Don't chain vape. :)

How often do you clean your coils? And how sweet and dark are eliquids? Some eliquids can gunk up a coil in a day or two. If you're using dark/sweet juices, get in a habit of cleaning your coil heads daily--a simple soak in PGA is usually sufficient. Or use denture cleaning tablets. They work very well.

^^ This!! What liquids are you using and what color are they (clear, apple juice, tea, coffee colored)? If the juices are light/clear do they darken in the tank as you vape? Whenever I have experience deterioration after only a day its a dark liquid or a liquid that turns dark in the tank cooking onto the coil. (This would apply to the tank that you have trouble getting a decent hit from - flipping the grommet and some cold pulls (pull without hitting fire button) should help to get the dry hit tank wicking properly).

Good luck and happy vaping!

Adding to what everyone else said, check how you are vaping. When i started i was doing 2 things that used to burn my lungs:
1 - Drawing very hard, believing that i needed to inhale very strong for 3 seconds. Dont know why i came to this conclusion, maybe because of old cigarette habit, but i used to believe i needed to get a lot of vapor on a short hit. Now i use to draw for 4-6 sec without problems
2 - Direct lung inhale; this was one that i was doing without knowing; usually mouth first to lung after draws are much better for my throat. Also if you are vaping a very high wattage vapor tend to be more hot and usually burn throat more easily. Its true that cigarette smoke is even hotter, but there are additives put on by industry to make the process a lot less harsh.

As other said, if you are having dry hits and try too hard you end also doing this; also some juices in high wattage does this burn effect, and especially citric flavours can give some burns. Flavours that can crack plastic tanks are even more harsh.
