I felt like I was 5 yrs. old last night. Went to an after hours club (ok it wasn't legal) and was told that I wasn't allowed to vape anywhere except in the smoking room. Someone was asking me about my gear and I was showing them, got caught and my ecig was taken away from me. The reason for the strict rule was that if anyone saw me vaping they would think it was ok to light up.

Good thing I had a number of back-ups with me. If not I would have succumbed to an analog.

I would call the police, they can't legally take a PV from you although they can put you out for whatever reason you want. The charge of theft combined with the fact you said they weren't operating legally should be more than enough incentive to leave you alone, although if not they will get what's coming to them ;)

You can also be charged for being in what you know to be an illegal establishment, so the police would not be much help in this situation at all.

You've got a point there, I guess, although the repercussions would be a lot bigger for the establishment I would presume, and the power here is in the threat :) If they say well you are going to jail as well, well you could tell them that they might receive an anonymous tip tomorrow as well as their getting some other unwanted publicity and I'm sure that all would scare them enough to give you back your PV, although you probably wouldn't be welcome there anymore :)

The story had a fairly happy ending anyway though I guess :)

The moral of that story is future boycotting of an establishment that confiscates your PV. Smokers have done that with some degree of success, hence the establishment of smoking areas.

I haven't been refused yet, but most of the places I go are restaurants and malls. I don't flaunt it and no one has anything to say about it. My wife gets embarrassed when I vape at a table, but she thinks they are illegal where smoking isn't allowed and doesn't want to have someone come over and tell me I can't. So far, it hasn't happened.

I can see the problem of people who complain and say, "He's smoking, why can't I?" They don't understand the difference. If it looks like a duck ...

Cops don't take well to being threatened.

As my brother in law cop Sargent used to say, you might whip me, but there are 400 other cops on day shift and on evening shift 325 more clock in, then there's night shift. It starts over again every morning. You will eventually lose.

I do understand the establishment's position. They have a very stressful job to do, since they can be busted easily, so their rules are understandably their rules and I should have been grateful that they let me in... All they need is one idiot to bust up their entire operation and land them big fines. I appreciate the people who run these things, because I'm not always ready to go home after last call.

I didn't obey their rules and I got caught and reprimanded, and as I said, felt like I was 5  Taking my "toy" away from me was punishment and a bit ridiculous, but oh well. I am so thankful that I had back-ups with me however, because the worst thing that could have happened was that I'd have to smoke analogs the rest of the evening.

Thought you all might get a little kick out of the story. Another taking things for granted on my end - I want to vape where I want to vape, right? It's like vaping in someone else's house when they've asked you not to. It was my bad and a smoking room was provided so I could have just gone in there and inhaled a bunch of second hand smoke like a good little girl :).
