Hello, I have a problem and I have no clue how to solve it.
I own an ecig that makes my throat feel like it's been brushed by sandpaper every time I inhale. Doesn't matter what juice I use, all of them feel the same.
I lowered the power to 30w, once even to 20 - still the same. Then I thought maybe the cotton is burnt, but that wasn't the case. No taste of burning and the cotton is all white.
My bf owns an RX ecig and smoking with it is completely different. Doesn't burn, doesn't feel harsh, even if it's at 70w.
I've looked through various forums before and a lot of them seem to suspect the juice. But my bf and I use the same ones, and, as I've already mentioned, only my ecig feels harsh, so I suppose the problem is in the atomizer.

What could be the problem?

Hi and welcome,

Please post DETAILS about what you are using; Device, Atomizer, resistance/coil/build, Juice-Nic/Ratio, and how you use it - DTL/MTL.

Cheers

The old 510 atomizers I used to use when I first started vaping would sometimes start to burn my throat every time I used it no matter what I did. It would be putting out smoke and glowing red and tasting really bad, burnt and harsh. Not sure exactly why it did that, but they would just start to burn my throat every time. When I would look down inside the atomizer it would be glowing red and I assume it was putting off toxins as well. This could be your problem.

tl;dr - Try a new atomizer, maybe yours is defective.

Are you using a regulated or mech mod?

Are yoy vaping a high PG ratio. PG causes a throat hit

What flavor is your Juice. You could be allergic to PG or flavor.

My ecig is eVic-VTC Mini, atomizer - MELO III Mini. Resistance - 3.87V. I used to use it at 40W (it used to belong to my bf), but ever since he got a new one and I took this one, the burning started and I lowered it to 20-30W.
I use it both ways, DTL and MTL, but mostly DTL.
Noc,
What is the nicotine level of your juice?
How recently have you replace the COIL/HEAD? Did you use the .3Ω or the .5Ω replacement?
The coils are listed as handling 30 watts +, but you may find, as noted by @Smoke_too_much, that starting at low watts and increasing slowly to be the path to satisfaction.
(afterthought- Could you be using the .5Ω Ti coils in power/bypass/start mode VS Temperature Control mode? )

Cheers

Hi @Nocty , and welcome to the ECF Forums! Definitely sounds like your coil is bad. I've never SEEN a factory coil have a hot spot, but that doesn't mean it isn't possible. Have you tried switching out the coil yet? 20w on a .5 or smaller ohm coil shouldn't really even be producing much vapor at all, and should be darn cool. Totally sounds like defective coil with hot spot.

Good luck and hope to see you around!

Welcome and glad you joined. Harsh may be the same as "brushed by sandpaper" .

Try lowering the wattage as far as you can & still power the atomizer. I use tanks w pre-made replaceable coils which come in about 1.5Ω and I keep it around under 10 watts.

Based on your equipment, you're probably vaping high VG liquid but, if not, the other possibility I can think of is PG level. PG is very drying and in winter, when the humidity drops, it can be too much. I can't vape high VG (I get the "I can't breathe" reaction) but in winter I bump it up a bit to keep the PG from drying out my throat.
