Sorry if this has been posted or discussed before elsewhere, but I've been thinking about the controversy surrounding vaping and thought the following : perhaps it would clear up some confusion to refer to them as PVs, not ecigarettes. My reasoning is that the use and/or inclusion of the term "cigarette" brings with it all the negative connotations of analog tobacco smoking, the attendant health risks to both the user and bystanders, and so forth. This is surely part of why vapers often have to go out of our way to either avoid stigmatization or be brave, knowledgeable, and courteous enough to explain to folks what exactly it is that's being done. On the other hand, though, perhaps the use of the cigarette term is what attracts many smokers to consider vaping as a better alternative.

Anyone's thoughts?

This subject comes up a number of times every year.
Doesn't really go anywhere because it's like putting the cart
before the horse.

Call it what ever ya like ... The public knows them as
electronic cigarettes or e-cigarettes.

Quoting Kristin from a thread last year ...

What we call it won't matter one iota. They'll have lawyers give it an unambiguous definition like, "an electronic device used to create a vapor, to be inhaled by the user, which may or may not contain nicotine (aka "e-cigarette, personal vaporizer.)"

The key is not that it looks like a cigarette but that it looks like SMOKING and creates a visible, "smoke-like" vapor. Unless you are willing to give up visible vapor, what you call it is irrelevant to the fight.

I hope they keep calling them e-cigs, it's what they are. I don't want people thinking they are just fun thing to pick up and try. They should be for people to use as an alternative to cigarettes. So e-cigs is what they are and what they should be called. If you start calling them anything else there will be people who think they are being marketed towards kids or as a new way to get people addicted to nicotine.

Ecigs ... is just a sang "WE" started using sometime ago
in a failed attempt to distance them from cigarettes.

Today those who are familiar with electronic cigarettes
refer to them as ecigs ... Slang "hip" thing which gives the illusion
they are part of the electronic community ...

Ecigs is just a "slang" term for electronic cigarettes
and saying "ecigs" fools no one .... Electronic cigarette
says it all ... "Electronic"

Call them what every ya like ... but as Kristin said many times ...
