I just received notice that ecigs are no longer allowed but traditional cigarettes are still allowed! I work on a drilling rig offshore in the Gulf of Mexico. This does not seem fair at all. Has anyone else experienced this in your workplace?
Is this due to perceived dangers of 'exploding' devices?
Appears to be.

I'm also finding other references to combustibles in general (as in regular cigarettes) being banned on some rigs.
Are you permitted rechargeable cell phones etc ?
Most electronic devices aren't permitted outside of your personal quarters. I'm also finding references that smartphones (or any phone with a camera) are strictly forbidden.
It's the flash I'm assumingI wonder why the camera would make a difference ?
I've heard this too, after the BP incident alot of the security measures changed from what I'm told.I wonder why the camera would make a difference ?

Cameras are a Big - Nobody's business No no. They were not even allowed in a Warehouse I worked at - OSHA Preventative measures![]()
This is oxymoronic if the concern is based on the risk of fire.I just received notice that ecigs are no longer allowed but traditional cigarettes are still allowed!
Again, I'm having a hard time drawing a correlation as to why vaping would have created more "unsafe incidents" than a guy stopping to pull a cig and lighter and take the time to light up.Yes, they stated the decision is a result of "several unsafe incidents".
