Never tried a carto before, and thought I'd try some out, so I got a 5 pack when ordering a few other goodies. I THINK I filled one right- I used the Dr Vapor method on youtube.

The problem is I get very little vapor, and when I do it tastes awful, and more often than not I get a mouth FULL of juice...

I thought they seemed like a good idea for driving rather than using the carts, but it's obviously not working for me. Anyone have an idea what I'm doing wrong?

Ogre, cartos are fine, and should work fine. The trick is to find what you need. Not all cartomizers are created equal.

Do you know what kind of cartos you got? Who manufactures them? I checked the website, but they have several kinds. What I noticed, though, is that they are either very low resistance (1.8-2.2Ω) or very high (over 4Ω). What PV are you using? If you're using eGo/Riva batteries, which run at 3.1v, your 4+Ω cartos won't produce anything, really, and 1.8Ω ones will most likely burn or kill your batteries.

Try bying some of Issac's cartos over at Ikenvape.com I happen to Beta all of his Cartos and he has some very good ones, his 3ohm Mega's are nice at 5-6v and he has some others that are fabulous from 3.7-4.8, I also just Beta tested some new dripping cartos he will be supplying soon and they even come with a Chrome drip tip but you can use whatever drip tip you want, they work super..!

They're standard resistance... you must have missed that one :)

I opened it up to look inside, and after the little mouthpiece cap, it's like a tube of filler, on top of a complex looking atty bridge. So I'm vaping through the filler? Wouldn't there be a tube or something to take the vapor to the mouthpiece? I'll get some batteries for my camera tomorrow, and take some pictures so everyone can see.

Like I said- I'm just really confused... Is there any way to mod them or something?

ECS Premium 510 Cartomizer Regular

OHM RATING: 2.3 +/-0.3

And I'm either using my new eGo, or a 510 batt...

I did see those. 2.3Ω, +/- 0.3Ω, is low/moderate resistance. The "standard', if there is such a thing, resistance for 510 cartos is 2.6Ω-3.1Ω.

If you filled them properly with 25-30 drops (or 1-1.5 ml) and let them sit for a couple of hours to let the juice saturate the filler, and then blew out any excess liquid out (from the mouth end through the battery end), and they taste bad or burnt, they may just be lousy cartos. I don't know what else to tell you. No, you can't mod a cartomizer, just fill it well and let it rest between draws. That's all you can do.

If you want a recommendation, the easiest cartos to use with your 510 PVs are Boge cartos. They come in regular(3.0Ω) and LR (~2.0Ω). You can get both kinds at LiteCig for a very reasonable price and first class shipping. I've used both kinds and prefer the standard version, but if you're a fan of hotter vaping, you may like the LR. They are more likely to burn, though, so make sure you keep them wet at all times.

Good luck.

Ok... do you recommend I completely clean these out and carefully refill?

No, if they don't taste burnt, just blow them out and check the filler. Does it look like it's fully saturated? If so, add a couple more drops from the mouth end and wait a while. Blow gently again. The filler should be spongy but not overflowing. Then try vaping again. Don't clean cartos unless absolutely necessary. And make sure that the center tube is empty and centered. If it tilts to one side, your carto will overheat and burn. You can straighten it by inserting a paper clip or a sewing needle and moving it to the center.

If they taste burnt, they are burnt. Discard.

Let us know.
