Right now, we face the possibilities of pv's being banned or regulated. There have been many discussions on this board about vaping in public. Should we vape in the smoking areas, or should people suck it up and let us vape where ever we want. Why don't we do something a little more proactive... What if we, as a community, go to these establishments, educate the owners/employees about vaping and what we are doing and who we are. Give them literature on e-cigs. Let the owners/employees decide IF they want to allow vaping inside their establishment, and let them hang a sign on their windows/door whether it is a vaping friendly/no vaping area.

Perhaps as a community we can come up with appropriate signage to display their choice. Educating other is also, not only, a way to get people behind us, but also show that we are respectful and only wish to live a healthier life.

I don't think you'll find anyone that doesn't have a vested interest in vaping would really give a damn. Pass out flyers, wear a "Ask me about Vaping" button on your shirt or coat. Maybe put a bumper sticker on the back of your car? No one is really going to care except people that vape and those looking for good way of quitting smoking cigarettes.

Obama has supposedly quit smoking. With all the stress that comes with his job I wouldn't be surprised at all if he's vaping but I'd be willing to bet that isn't likely to become public information. :2c:

When I go to a restaurant, I usually ask if I can vape. Most of the time, I get "Vape? What's that?" So I tell em, it's my personal vaporizer, and it's cool with them. Some times when I ask, the person knows what vaping is and I'm told "Yeah, go ahead". I try not to be flouting it like "Look at me, I'm vaping!" I vape in public like I'm at home. In doing so, I'm trying to show to the public that vaping is not smoking but is completely different. I keep business cards, in my car, from some local vape stores, which I pass out to anyone who is even remotely curious and interested in vaping.

And I'm willing to bet that there are a lot of non smokers who would be interested in vaping to tell smokers about a valid way to quit. Last time I was in the hospital i used my pv in my room. At first the nurses thought it was odd. When I explained what it was they all got very interested. They were all non smokers and several left with info to this forum to give to friends and family who smoked.

Maybe, just maybe if we actually got up and started telling non smokers that there is a way for people to quit that actually works, then people would not see it in such a bad way anymore. It benefits non smokers too, in that the more people who quit using e-cigs the less THEY have to be worried about being exposed. All it takes is a little effort on our part, instead of thinking they need to hide, thinking they can vape anywhere they want whether others mind or not. If people as a whole learn that there is nothing to fear then the government loses the advantage.

Right now the biggest thing the government has going for them is that people don't understand it. If people learn and begin to understand then we get the upper hand.

This is what i'm talking about. Teach people and they will learn they have nothing to fear. Now if more people would take this approach, it might be a good thing for us.

You may be correct about this and I'd like to think so but I'm one of those "Glass is half empty" people and only wished to state my opinions about it.

I have heard Obama is not being totally truthful about when he actually quit ... I wouldn't be surprised to see him rocking a Provari soon. :vapor:

I think it's most likely the nicotine would be regulated. Everyday items with other uses such as batteries, metal tubes, wires, vegetable glycerin, food flavorings, and so forth could not be effectively banned. :2c:

There have been many discussions on this board about vaping in public. Should we vape in the smoking areas, or should people suck it up and let us vape where ever we want.
This extreme dichotomy doesn't make any sense to me, personally.

When I was a smoker, I smoked pretty much anywhere I wanted to smoke outdoors, with very few exceptions (e.g. pumping gas). I have lived in several states, and I have never lived in a part of the country where smokers cannot do this. As a vaper, I likewise vape anywhere I want to vape outdoors, with very few exceptions (I still don't do it pumping gas, for example).

Indoors, if I would like to vape, I ask the permission of the homeowner, proprietor, or representative of the property owner before vaping. Sometimes they allow it, other times they do not. It's their property, not mine, so it's entirely reasonable that they should make that decision.

In neither of these scenarios does the extreme dichotomy "Should we vape in the smoking areas, or should people suck it up and let us vape where ever we want" appear to apply. *shrug*

Why don't we do something a little more proactive... What if we, as a community, go to these establishments, educate the owners/employees about vaping and what we are doing and who we are. I do educate folks about vaping. I've even made brochures that I carry with me. :)
