I don't think the battery is gonna make a difference unless the efest is really old. The black crud was residual noalox. I think your best chance of improvement is noalox . If it gets resistance in the threads it could sense it as voltage drop on the battery going below cut off.. Removing the battery and putting back in gives it a fresh ground contact in the threads.
Feeling any heat at the bottom cap when you use it?
Noalox is a miracle worker, I was once a noalox denier (lol) but its very effective. Also noalox the spring contact point top and bottom
