After fours weeks, the C was not putting out, and sometimes it tasted just vile.

I had been cleaning them by blowing them out once in a while.
Opened them up and the coils were all black and coated, and the wick was dark and matted.

I was always wondering when it was time to change them out, guess I know now.

Does anyone know of a better method to know its time to change, other than having to suffer unwelcome nastiness? Below is a pic of the old one beside a new one.

When they slightly offer a poor taste or poor vapor production, pitch them. If you're getting almost 4 weeks out of one, you're doing really good! I know with my eGo mega atty's (don't use them any more) this was the sign to loose the atty and move on. I got about 2.5 weeks out of one. (not a direct comparison to the eGo "C" atty, but principle is the same.

About once a week after blowing out the C atomizer, I fill an A-tank with 151 proof Everclear, and run this combination on the battery for about ten seconds three times, blow out again and drop into a bottle of the Everclear to soak for a few more days, then break in with normal vaping fluid for about 15 minutes. This will keep it operating as nearly new for a longer period. If you can't get Everclear, vodka works almost as well. 151 proof rum doesn't work very well; likely too much sugar.
