I think one of the problems we see with the EMDCC is due to overfilling. There's a fine line between running them too low, and totally saturating them, which swells the filler in the air passage and reduces airflow. I find that running it a little more dry after the initial filling makes it vape much better.

I'd still love to see one cut open to really understand the construction, but the one I've been using for almost a month now is dear to my heart and not ready to be laid down in the anatomy lab.

I must say that I'm not overly impressed with them. Let me explain...

After much debate I decided to put about 2 1/2 - 3 ML of a 6mg almond coffee juice in it. Although the vapor is significant from these babies I found it lacked a decent TH. It could have been the 6mg juice (it was tasty) but it felt as though I had to pull too hard to get significant th down the hatch.

I then put said juice into a boge LR and drip tip. Wha-la... much better. It could be the flat/whistle tip on the end but I must say that I wasn't too impressed. Maybe I'll try them when I get a stronger nic juice to see if that helps. For the most part, it's been me and my boge cartos today and I'll occasionally try the EMDCC but quickly put it back down.

A few of the first ones I bought are still going strong even without cleaning, although the draw is too tight to be comfortable for very long. But the newer ones clogged shut after a few hours and nothing works to open them up. Lately I've been using the SMOK EPower Dual Coil 6ml Cartomizers, $3.49 each so a little more costly, but they work even better than the first EMDDCs. So far the first one is the same as it was the first day and it's been over a week with dark, sweet, thick chocolate juice. I tried this juice in an EMDCC and it plugged up within an hour. The ones still working are not only from the first batch but also have a clearer fruit juice in them so I think juice has a lot to do with it too. I don't know, I could be wrong but it sure is frustrating to waste so much money on this stuff. If only I could be satisfied with what I have... story of my life.

No, no, a REAL image. I can't tell from the X-ray what exactly is going on. What maintains the coils' shape? What are they contacting?

Maybe I don't understand your question, but they're contacting the packing - as far as what maintains their shape, it's reasonably stiff wire for its size and there are a couple of woven tubes inside the carto keeping the coils in place. You can probably see the end of one if you look in the end of the carto.

Somebody in this thread (or maybe two people) have cut one open but it's a huge thread and I have no idea how to find he post.

If that Xray was taken of one that had quit working (or no longer working well) then it's possible that the coils have been pushed around and such and that a new one doesn't look much like that at all.

I have trouble figuring out, via the xray, what is where. Are all those coils and wires inside the inner tube? If so, why does it look clear when I look through one? And how does the juice get on the coils? And if not, and the coils are wrapped around that tube so that the juice pretty much covers them, then how does the vaper get out when you hit the button and draw on them?

Obviously, I don't have the slightest idea how a cartomizer is built or how it works. I've saved a couple of EMDCC's that I don't use anymore, I've cleaned them out with hot water, and one of these days when I'm at a friends, I plan to use his shop to cut them apart piece by piece and figure out a bit more about them.

Baldr, let us know. Typical cartos just wrap filler around a vertical coil. I tore an Echo apart and it was impressive how strong and smartly built it was. A horizontal glass fiber wick cuts across the bottom of a woven glass airpipe. The coil is wrapped around this wick. The wick barely protrudes through slits in the airtube, contacts and draws juice from filler that's wrapped around the outside of the tube. There's no way you can burn anything. Worst case you dry-burn. The dual coil version similarly mounts a second coil higher up in the pipe. So I'd love to see the EMDCC structure.

I seriously think that's the first time I've seen anyone say they don't get serious TH from these. Amazing how we all perceive things differently, isn't it? To me the TH from a Boge is wimpy...even on VV.

So are the coils wound ON a woven fiber tube (unlikely), or IN one, are they just floating between short tubes and contacting the packing? This last idea agrees with the glow seen on defective ones and the ease with which the coils can be damaged by poking in the airspace. I'm just not 100% sure, though.

Floating between short tubes IIRC.

Serious TH from 6ml juice would be something to see in any case :)

A CE2 has more TH than an EMDCC does but they don't hold much juice and are a pain to fill. That's why I'm building a CE2 syringe tank mod this morning :D

See, that's just what I'm saying...I've tried the CE2s and found them to be lacking. I have run 6 mg juice in my EMDCCs and get all the TH I'd ever want...and TH is what I need most. It's just really interesting to me that all of us find things so different. I guess that's what I find really cool about all this. But it does make recommending things a bit tough sometimes.

It certainly does. The hell of it is I have enough ego to think I know what's best for everybody :D

My wife helps me keep that ego under control and I'm grateful to her - I think.
