So I deleted this question last night thinking it was dumb, but I am still curious if anyone has rebuilt the CLR coils with Clapton coils?

For the record--I didn't ignore your original question, I just have no clue. I'm very happy with my plain old Kanthal coils. :)

I didn't think anyone was ignoring me. I just was worried it'd look like a no brainer question and I've exceeded my limits for those![emoji4]

The only dumb question is one that isn't asked.

Theoretically, if you can fit a Clapton coil in your CLR, I don't see why you shouldn't... But I have no experience with building Claptons, so I'm just speculating here. :D

That's what I was thinking, but wanted to run it by you all before trying [emoji4]

"I got bored and decided to see if a crazy, twisted clapton would work in a Joyetech CLR coil... it did!

I used some prewound 28/38 clapton, twisted it on itself, wrapped it with a 3mm ID, tightened it to about 2.7mm around a 2.5mm rod, and made a 0.75 ohm coil.

Crazy flavor and vapor at 30 watts. It's a battery draining, juice guzzling, heat generating beast, though.."

Proceed at your own risk.... ;)

I was gonna say the biggest CHALLENGE would be that BIG WIRE on either side of the silicone groment

I kinda expected not to see proof of it in that video (never shows how the wire fits in) :sneaky:

my thinking would be clapton in all its size and glory would push the silicone out to far to fit into base threads

the wraps of Clapton inside the body should not be a problem... ;)

I am not interested either in this, standard SS is plenty good enuff for me & my girl... :smokie::p

No claptons, anything above 32 AWG twisted, or anything larger than 24 AWG round. The pin will tear out the grommet when reinstalling everything

My thoughts exactly. Besides, I have no desire to turn my CLRs into "battery draining, juice guzzling, heat generating beasts."

Ask me how I know :)

;)

Hi, Shawn!
AGREED!! I love it that the CLR coils are as frugal as I am! We're retired, so we squeeze a nickel til the buffalo toots.

Yesterday, just for fun, I actually tried using Clapton wire in a PT coil head and you're right, it's too big for the grommet!

Was thinking the same. Didn't bother watching more than a minute if the video. No interest.

cool, if it is something you'd like to try - why the heck not - ya never know

guess it is how we learn

I remember maybe 3 yr ago I seen this on a YTube vid and jump'd up instantly and tried to do the same...

normally I'd think it out, come up with a plan, but I was so excited I went ahead and built one and it worked pretty good

but it turned out to not be as good as my standard 'horizontal coils' and I abandoned the whole idea...
