Eventually the battery would give in. Not sure if it would still work as a PT with usb power and shot battery or not though. Hopefully I wont have to find out too soon.

ETA: Actually yeah I think it would be finished when the battery gives up. When using it as a PT the charging light comes on for about 30 seconds or so, so its drawing power from the battery not the cord when you use it.

If the PT was a little less expensive, it would be nice, since you can get 2 batteries for almost the same price, it isn't as good of a deal IMO. I mean, I am paying for the same unit, with a USB port on it, and a cheap USB cable, not exactly worth the up in pricing, but I did buy one, and I have other ego/rivas laying around, it is a neat way to always have a charged battery on hand, but since there is a life span on the battery, it doesn't seem much better to me. The only real difference is the fact you can use it while it is charging I suppose. Everyone wants something different out of their PV, so it's hard to say whether it is better for your needs or not. If you think it's better to get 2 batteries instead of one, get a kit. Either way, you have a consumable product that will eventually fail. 900mah will give you longer times between charges, but still has the same over all life span... just my 2cents...

Isn't a pass-through a cable connected to your always live USB port on your PC?

It can be or you can purchase an USB/AC adapter to use them anywhere there's an outlet. Using an adapter with at least 2.0amp output is highly advisable if going with a 5.0v PT as the higher draw could overload a computer.

From cignot, my 510 passthru cost $17. New eGo batteries are $20+. Batteries can be used universally, the passthru only really useful at a usb port.

Since I do 75% of my vaping at my desk, I'd rather tear up a $17 pass thru every few months and have my batteries last a lot longer. Since I only drip when at my desk, an eGo passthru is unnecessary for me. I could see where it would be less stuff to keep up with if I worked in an office where I had to step away to use my PV.

I've got both an ego passthrough and a 900mah. Both are awesome... the PT is preferable for me. I've got a mini cable at home, at the office, and on an adapter in the truck. It's a standard ego battery when off the cable, and as I plug it in at every opportunity, I always have a full charge. I was sitting on the couch last week and suddenly realized I hadn't used anything else for over 4 days straight. The 900mah is now my "backup", in case the PT takes a dump on me. An ego PT is only about $25 from heavengifts (the 900mah is $15.50 or so)... worth the wait on the shipping time.

My first green ego passthrough was the best pv I have ever owned. It never had a down time. When I was at my pc I would plug in it and it would charge while in use, and when I left my pc, I would just unplug and would have a fully charged battery. Some days when I was dipping I would realize I had gone over 2 days without even unscrewing the atty or removing the diptip.

Alas - an evil mega ego cartomizer shorted out and killed it.

I immediately put in an order to Liberty Flights for 2 more ($20.79 each with ecf discount code) another green and a blue. They came yesterday. The blue was a deeper blue then it looked in the pictures and I fell in love and I decided to use it for a while and keep my green in case some horror befalls my blue one like happened to my old green. Which undoubtedly it will sooner or later, it seems my batteries all die before reaching old age, so I am not really worried that its normal life span is only the same as an other ego battery. I still see the fact that it never has any down time and the fact that you never have to take an atty off in order to recharge, with the added hassle of cleaning the threads thoroughly before each charge in order not to mess up the charger - very much worth the few extra dollars it cost instead of a regular battery. And you also save the cost of a charger, since it is built into the battery casing itself.

"Everything in vaping will eventually fail" seems to be the advice I've received. So in the meantime, I use what I love - and that's def. the passthrough ego battery. No messing around with your atty (I mostly drip, so I just cycle through complementary flavors - or as of late, just keep malty-toffee from backwoodsbrew handy at ALL TIMES - and once in a while I give an atty some basic attention, maybe once a week or so, or when I feel like using a carto).

As is painfully obvious, I'm on the computer most of the time during the day, so I also just keep it plugged in then take it off when I'm not glued to my seat. I also love it for road trips - I am a road trip taker lately! - plug it in while driving, unplug at destination - it's a perfect setup for me. I do have two - one is my vaper's-paranoia-backup - but generally only use one, ever.

It is the best purchase I've made, bar-none.
