I blow out the atty from the battery end to get as much juice out as possible. I then take a QTip and clean off the battery contacts and in the atty itself. The Ego T spike allows you to get a qtip right beside it so that twisting the qtip actually runs it around the spike and soaks up any excess. I just dab at the bridge for the non-T attys.

If I need a more thorough cleaning (I never have but do it since I think it might make it last longer), I get some very hot water in a small locking lid type container and shake the hell out of it in there. I then blow out the excess water with a can of compressed air (for cleaning computers). To finish it off I either leave it out to dry, or, to expedite the process I set the attys on something so they won't move and let the hairdryer blow on it for 5-10mins.

Not sure if all this is necessary as I'm still very new but it works for me.
