After a few days with a new Ehpro Cold Steel 100 mod, using TC mode has been frustrating. Took me a day of searching the web to find anyone with a similar bad TC experience. The link below to thread here mirrored my experience, but for whatever reason that thread is locked, a few months old, so I can’t post there, and started this thread. I’ve PM’d the OP of that thread, but it looks like they joined here mostly to diagnose his TC issues with this mod, and is no longer active. Here is the original thread:

Cold Steel Mod: Bad vaping experience - can’t figure why

The OP unfortunately did not have a DNA device to check against the Cold Steel 100 mod. I do, and can confirm that the temperature control is faulty. Most reviewers and owners, use this mod in VW, and it works fine. I bought it to use in TC mode, since while I own many mods, DNA and non DNA, it’s hard to find single 21700 battery mods these days, and I thought using this mods TCR mode would take stress off using my only DNA75c Lost Vape Mirage (discontinued).

If anyone stumbles across this post and wants more info, I can go into details, especially if you are considering buying this for TC use.

I bought it for VV but I noticed there's no way of modifying TCR on it? I don't know much or use TC much, but that seems like a pretty important thing to be able to do for TC right?

I think the majority of people that buy TC capable mods have no real inclination or intent of using it. It's a pretty basic feature on most new mods at this point, regardless of how good it ends up being. When I do use TC, I really only use my DNA mods since there's so much discrepancy from mod to mod otherwise.

His profile shows he was last logged in to the forum on this past Sunday, so maybe @BaronHarkonnen will come to this thread and chime in.

By the way, I see that there's a firmware upgrade for it, but I have no idea what it is for and what it adds or corrects, if anything. Never installed it myself. I only use it in VW/VV mode and it works fine. No need to fix what isn't broke.

Upgrade Software | Ehpro® Innovation keeps changing the vaping experience!

I hope you find your solution. But it seems to me that people who compare cheaper mainstream mods to DNA mods usually ends up being unsatisfied/disappointed/frustrated.

I think rjp087 is probably right. Those who use and like this mod probably only use it in VV/VW mods. That's how I use it and I love it.

You can change TCR, from the simple menu. But as I’ve mentioned, temperature control does not function properly, so don’t bother with it.

I think that firmware update allows the device to remember your last setting when you change the battery.

I can confirm it's absolute crap for TC. Too bad because it's a nice-looking, well-built mod and as others have noted, works fine in VW.

I'm like OP, wanted a single 21700. I've since replaced it with a Pico 21700 running arctic fox and couldn't be happier.

Ah, yes. The once with the Ambitionz logo on it had that problem.

Too bad EHPro decided to not put much effort into the TC. But it's not a surprise to me. I love the mod but EHPro products have a reputation for being half-baked.

I also like the Pico 21700.

Mine while not the latest or last FW, did not have the memory issue. I’m looking at the Eleaf Pico 21700 S. I have a bunch of the original 18650 versions from years ago, and at least from I remember, they did decent TC. I just want a 21700 mod that allows direct TCR input. I’m just driving a Stempod dual coil as heater unit. I’d prefer not to keep using my Lost Vape Mirage 21700, as they don’t make them anymore.
