That I kind of got a hit on. There is apparently something called “algiKnit” which extrudes and cures alginate “combined with other bioplymers” to produce a fiber. Details are slim. Particularly as to what qualities the fiber has.
It’s apparently being hailed as a sustainable crop though, and has enough hype around it that people are producing fakes.

Alginate is a very hydroscopic polysaccharide and is used as a thickener in a lot of things.

It sounds a lot like plant mucus, more or less.

Looking at the product “ SeaCell”, which is the only fiber mentioned one finds that it is actually something called “lyocell” with alginate

impregnated into it. Lyocell appears to be simple rayon using a slightly unusual process.
