This morning I used the calculator to get a recipe for 5ml. The amounts when measured out, I used drops, filled a 5ml bottle a little less than half full. What happened?

op, I received the same question yesterday.
See this for my reply: Calculator not adding up??

Answer:
The calculator came up with the correct amount but it sounds like you used a dropper to measure your liquids.
The dropper method is not recommended as I stated in a few posts.
See second from the last paragraph at: http://breaktru.com/smf/index.php/topic,130.0.html

The reason the dropper is not accurate is because each liquid will have a different consistency. VG drops are larger than a PG drop and different droppers give different drop size.
The drop box that shows "20" can be changed but remember if you use VG, PG and different droppers it still won't be accurate.
I always use a syringe. My preference is a 3ml syringe with a 12ga blunt tip for thick liquids such as VG and Nic that has a lot of VG and an 18/20ga blunt tip for PG based liquids.

Thanks breaktru. I was using the drops because getting 1.67, 1.68, and .15ml's in the syringe seems difficult to do, more like guessing the amounts, if you know what I mean, but I guess that would still be better than using drops.

With the common type of plastic squeezy dropper bottles I normally find I get about 20 drops or slightly less for a ml of VG, but PG based liquids and flavours are usually between 30-40 drops to the ml. It's imprecise though. I prefer to use a graduated measuring cylinder to mix in but use drops for adding very small amounts of flavours unless I really want to be accurate, when you can use a 1ml syringe.

I try to adjust my amounts so they come out close to an easier result.
Using a 3ml syringe the increments are 0.1ml so if you are a bit under 1.7ml for 1.67/1.68ml, that would be close. 0.15 would be between the first and second mark (0.1 and 0.2). I put on my strong glasses to see better. Just finished making 4 bottles of ejuice.

Wow! Using the syringe really made a difference. I got a full 5ml using the syringe.
