Welcome to the asylum. To answer your question, I took a 1.2 ohm coil from the dead core box and—with much effort—took it apart. Nothing like the 1.5s. The thing on the upper left is, far as I can tell, a single piece.

When the cap came off, I stared at what reminded me of the insides of a cigalike cartomizer. No wonder the 1.2s gurgle and flood.

Correction: Not quite a single piece—

It is a cartomizer. :)

Great autopsy pics--thanks, GF!

Is that cotton scorched or just discolored?

Hello, Airheads!

Congrats, @LynnNC :toast:

Hmmm...I wonder if that silicone grommet can be used to rebuild a 1.5 coil? Was that a TC coil or a cotton coil, GranF?

Wonder where the second lead is for that vertical coil? I gotta go find a vid on how to rebuild a vertical coil.

I bought a couple of 5-packs to try them out.
Pros-- Airy vape, in the general direction of a CheechOcoil. Fits the GS-*
Cons- Doesn't last nearly so long as the 1.5 ohm coil, gets saturated, oversaturated, gurgly, and ... into the core box it goes, a week or two sooner than the 1.5.

Ymmv ;)
Hey GrandF, the next time you try a 1.2 - assuming you still have any - could you try taking the tank off and storing it upside down when you're not going to use it for several hours (like overnight when you go to sleep)? Worked to avoid the gurgling on my TC coils and I'm guessing the basic structure of the the 1.2 coils is the same as the TC coils.

1. It is a cartomizer. :)
2. Great autopsy pics--thanks, GF!
3. Is that cotton scorched or just discolored?

1. Yep! A dwarf. Neo-natal and pediatric malnutrition will do that.
2. You be most welcome, Madama Katya de Burdz.
3. Yes. Also, too, as well... replete with gunkage.

Will do.

What is this thing called sleep of which you speak, J.I.? Have you not adopted baseball as the preferred nocturnal activity?

why did i have to bite my tongue to keep asking that exact question?

10. Enquiring minds want to know.

9. You can't keep it on a leash all day.

8. There are only two possibilities: discolored, scorched, and other.

7. Cheech is working on this one. Stay tuned.

2. The parrots put you up to it.

1. You forgot to have supper, and that tongue seemed mighty appetizing at the moment.

ah, gran - if you were aware of https://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/f...-510-kr808-4081-etc-filler-type-cartos.18530/ you would not have asked those questions
for years we vaped, dissected and washed and woe to any carto that did not come clean!
Oh my! So That's why the question was asked.

I thought nothing of the discoloration when I saw the pic. My juices often get darker in a tank with an older coil. These GS rebuilds seem to give decent flavor for so long that I often change flavors without changing the coils. When switching flavors, I try to vape it ALMOST dry - to maybe one hit from a dry hit - which I'm sure will singe the cotton on occasion.

These tanks make me even more lazy. I really should get to rebuilding a few soon. I'll go lounge around and think about it. :)

Um...what am I working on? No one said there would be a test! My alarm didn't go off, dog ate it, Mom said I had to be home when the street lights came on!

Did I ask a question? This lavender juice must be scrambling my two remaining brain cells. And both of them are sneezing and coughing.

OK. I get your serious point. Even though I'm a novice at this compared to the most lovely experts, I do remember burned polyfil cartos. Tried washing a few. Boiled some. They still tasted like roadkill in a reduction of Velveeta and motor oil.
Gunkage is neither scorched wicking, nor is it just discoloration resulting from ejuice and cotton cooking. It's caramelized vg (and pg and nic and flavoring and I hope not much more) on the coil surface.

Now please don't bite your tongue again. That can be painful.

Forgive him, Tibs, for he doesn't know what we, true pioneers of vaping have gone through to make his life easier. He'll never know about the dents in our walls from Taryn spins, holes in our desks from dremels and exacto knives used in our post mortem examinations, the sleepless nights and Truman co-ops, leaky condoms, lab tests, and endless spreadsheets and lists and experiments. Oh, we have to learn to forgive the ungrateful and snarky youngins who never had to invent a good way to clean and dry a carto...
