Hi Le
Hi everyone! I'm really new here! I've spent the last 12 hours trying to take it all in from the first post, but gave up and joined and jumped ahead a bunch! I started out looking for info on rebuilding the GS tank, specifically a nickel build for my istick 40 TC. Though I kinda got wrapped up in the whole GS Air thing along the way. If anyone did figure out how to do a vertical coil nickel build, I missed on the way, but Oh, My did I have fun getting this far, even with skipping months at a time!
Hi @Leopards ! Nice to meet you! Hope you will find the answers you are searching for here! And stick around - these are the best folks on the internet, right here!

8 wraps of 30g Ni200, 2mm ∅, would net you about 0.1Ω and vape fine in TC mode. Other wire types MAY give better results in tiny builds.
Steamengine.org say you would be on the safe side of 0.1ohm with 8wraps, could even get by with 6 if necessary, if the legs are 5 mm. What worries me is 30ga nickel is going to be real flimsy and messing up the coil spacing while wicking looks like it could be pretty easy to do! I did see a youtube video where they twisted 30ga Ni with28Ga kanthal, just for the strength, since the current is going to follow the path of least resistance and the kanthal will not be doing any of the heating. Wonder if that would throw off the TC??

Agreed. Nickel is not the ideal TC wire but it's all the iStick 40W officially supports (DNA40 too). Tempered Ni200 is much easier to work with. If it can fit in the GS Air head, a 28g, 9/10 wrap @ 2mm will net approximately .1Ω as well. A 7/8 wrap would yield .08Ω, which is certainly vapable. I have two Ni200 coils in use right now; one at .06Ω, the other at .09Ω. Both vape great in TC.

Others here would have to chime in with their thoughts on max geometry of coil for the GS Air head. @Cheechako @LynnNC , what say you two?

Thanks to all of you! I'll have to modify the T-Shirt with a pocket so my phone and mod will fit! ;-) Don't think I have been called an Air Head before, Nut, Crazy, Weird plenty of times!

I have no experience with any of the TC wires recoiling.
All my experience has been with the 28 and 30 gauge Kanthal. All the experimentation with different
gauges and wraps is in the past and I forgot how many wraps max I got in the GS Air base with any of
them. I do know that it has been posted that the enemy of a stable recoil in the Airs, is that they are
held in place with the rubber grommet and the nickel didn't hold well under those circumstances.
I'm sure Lynn can add more and I think @Bikenstein had done some experimentation.

Tibs, I have. It works pretty good on the istick.

@Cheechako and @aldenf I build nickel coils for my STM's in both the coil heads and the rba's. I've never built a Ni coil for a GS Air tank. I only have 28 gauge Ni and I think it takes too many wraps to fit in the coil head.

YES! They are having a special sneak preview of the pilot episode, which I've already watched! First episode was decent. No Lost, but decent. Of course, there will NEVER be another Lost.
