It is a dark and dangerous passage to navigate. and escape with your finances in fiscal order!

Yes, that's a big one, too!

I've had PayPal for almost 11 years and have never had a problem with them. Using my bank debit card online now is a whole other thang! Lol

Me, too, Lynn. But I've known a few other people who have had problems. I'll have to give it some thought. I guess I could find a notary and get verified that way. Just more time intensive.

I've never had PayPal but am considering opening another bank account with a very limited balance someday to try it out. Have never used my bank debit card online or even in person (other than at my bank branch). Credit cards are only used online with single use numbers generated by my bank for safety.

It's not paranoia if there are actually people out there trying to get you....

Yep. Open a second checking account with a unique account number at your bank. It's still associated with your existing account (so you can transfer money to it instantly online), but the number isn't just sequentially different... it's totally unique and different except for the bank routimg number (useless to hackers without a good account number). Most banks and credit unions offer this for free, unless you already have multiple checking accounts. Open a Paypal account and a free Paypal credit card. Leave a zero balance in Paypal when you're not using it... this is where the Paypal credit card pulls from: your paypal balance is effectively your credit limit. Tie your Paypal account to that second checking account. If you make a purchase, you'll need to transfer that amount money from that account to your paypal account before completing checkout since the paypal credit card won't initiate a bank transfer the way a standard paypal payment will (that's a good thing here). Takes literally one minute. Leave a zero balance in that second checking account until you're ready to purchase something. Then go online to your bank's site and transfer the money from your primary checking or savings to that unique, secondary account. Again, literally one minute.

It requires a couple of extra minutes of your time at checkout (two money transfers), but leaves absolutely nothing for hackers to steal. With a zero balance in both places, you can't steal what's not there. Also, it give three levels of security... to an account that ultimately isn't linked to your money. Hackers would need to hack through three levels of account security to ultimately access two zero balances... and Paypal and your bank will notify you to the breach.

It's a bit of up front setup, but I make all my online purchases this way. All it requires is that I go through the checkout process, get the balance due, transfer that amount to the secondary checking, then transfer from that account to Paypal. From there, it's a standard credit card transaction using the Paypal credit card.

Paypal also offers something like 1% cash back on all purchases each month... they just credit it to your paypal balance and you have free money. With a bad case of shinyitis like mine, 1% cash back adds up quickly.

Thanks for that info, Cloudmann. I'm going to check that out with my bank and see if I can set up something like that.

In other news - I'm so excited! This morning I found out that I'm one of the winners in the Innokin Disrupter contest! I just sent them my choice of colors and will be anxiously awaiting some new vape mail!:banana::banana::banana::banana:
