It has been my experience so far that when I call my Provari V2 an electronic cigarette (when people ask what is that?) that I automatically get negative reactions from people. I can just see the anti-smoking bias glaze over their eyes no matter what I say. When I refer to it as an APV people ask more questions and are open minded to it if I don't use the word cigarette. Has anyone else run into this?

I usually get the opposite effect. When people see me using my Provari with cartotank, they want to know either is it a .... or are genuinely curious what it actually is. I usually respond by saying its an advanced vaporizer. I go on to say it gives off water vapor and is a alternative nicotine delivery system. That usually elicits a blank stare, so I add that it is also called an advanced electronic cigarette and then they go... "ohhhhhhh" and nod affirmatively. They generally ask more about exactly how it works and say that they will have to check that out.

what the general public fails to recognize is that the nicotine is not the chemical of concern. its the tar that is generated from smoking tobacco that is of great concern. when folks find out that theres nicotine in our vapor, they immediately think, "well its the same as smoking". it blows my mind how terribly ill-informed most people are. but i do regain a blip of faith in humanity when i run across a person that actually knows what theyre talking about, no matter how few and far between.

I'm definitely not surprised that the general public is ill informed about other people's vices. I wouldn't know which part of drinking meths was bad for someone, for example.

I usually say 'it's an ecig'. When I am casually referring to it with my friends tho, I call it my 'vape' and they know what I mean.

good point. i thought it was common knowledge, but you bring up a good analogy as to why it is not.

My friends and family now know what "vaping" is and understand when I call it a PV, but the general public doesn't. When I've said "personal vaporizer" I've gotten looks that suggest they think I'm using some kind of illicit drug. If I say it's an advanced e-cig and basically delivers nicotine in a much safer way than a cigarette much like someone using the gum or patch, I get a lot less nasty looks and a lot of questions about whether people should quit smoking or nicotine. Thanks to the misinformation out there a lot of people think nicotine is the problem rather than the smoke.
