I was just thinking that with all the problems of liquid getting into the battery from over-dripping and such, why not just eliminate the hole.

There has to be a way of activating the battery from the outside, right? Whatever pressure sensor is in the battery could be moved to the outside where it connects to the atty, and presto no more flooding problems.

...or would this not be feasible for some reason?

I think if you used a microphone to detect the atomizer sound(a few brands use a mic)but if you were able to come up with a small chip to cancel out all the other sounds but the atomizer sound it would kick some ....!

Closed off or not I think some mics would still pick up the sound....
A ;confidenser' (noise canceling) mic could be used. This type of mic is used in situations where you don't want outside sounds, and only the 'voice' to be picked up. It's often used in military applications and has been around for many years. It consists of two mics wired out of phase with one pointing at what you want to pick up and the other to pick up mostly outside sounds. The sound that is common to both mics (outside noise) is canceled out.

It would make the battery more expensive and might not be practicle for e-cigs.
