Ok guys I'm new to the game and diy liquids are something I want to do. I was vaping 16 mg from a vendor so I wanted to make my own 16 mg juice. I bought pg and vg from walmart. I bought flavors and nicotine from wizard labs. I made 10 different flavors which I found was a stupid idea without testing. I Used The ejuice Calculator And Made All 10 Mg bottles. I added 1.6 ml of 100 mg pg nicotine to every bottle. I made them 50 50 so I then added 5mg of vg and different amounts of pg and flavoring to equal 10 mg. I have tested 3 flavors after a warm water steep and they are very peppery as if I used to much nicotine..what do I do? Are they saveable?

Nic , or at least the ones I've used are flavorless. So I'm confused with your statement about getting a peppery taste from Nic. I've never noted a taste myself from it. I use 100mg in 100%pg base from myfreedomsmokes. I use the e juice me up program. For me it's a better and far more simple program then all the online ones I've tried. Anyway at the top in the program you'll see "ENTER YOUR AMOUNTS" You'll notice the first place to enter something is "Nicotine Strength e-juice" then to the right of it, you'll see that by default it has 50% in the pg part and 50% in the vg part. To the right of that by default you'll notice 100 mg. For myself, since I use 100 pg I change the first part to 100%. The program automatically changes the vg part to 0. Since I am using 100mg nic, I leave the 100 in that place. The next thing under the nicotine Strength is the Target Nicotine Strength ( what % of nic you want your diy ejuice to have in it) Since I am down to doing 8% nic, I put 8 in the place on the right. I then go on to fill in the places for my flavors and since everything I vape is 50/50 pg/vg, I make sure that the target place is the program has 50/50.

Anyway it seems for sure something has gone hinky if you're getting a peppery taste. I can't imagine it's from the nic though since I've personally never had such a issue and even Wizard Labs advertises that their nic to be flavorless. And even though I am far from a diy master, I put a bet more on it being one of or a combination of flavorings causing it. Too much of one thing and not enough of another or too much of all flavoring or not enough. . My suggestion is to use a better flavor mixing program then what you're using and start small in flavoring percentages. I've learned that different brands of concentrates vary greatly. Just as differing as peoples specific taste needs. Good vape stores have to make everything from 0 nic to 24 mg nic and varying differences in the pg and vg mixes. The one down the street from me make a 100% pg base set of flavors to 100% vg base and every conceivable percentage in between. I can only imagine the pain that is and I certainly don't envy the people in the back putting it all together. Also flavor varies from one supplier to another and you may have to use a small percent amount, while with another, it has to be a large percent. . ejuice Me Up and be done with it. It's the best thing to hit the DIY world in my opinion. Well after science decided it was safer to use pg (Propylene glycol)l instead of dg (diethylene) glycol that is.

Speed steeping is no substitute for time. It speeds things but does not complete it. Even with speed steeping (you want a hot water bath, not warm) you need to give it a day or two to gas off and blend. Leave the caps off for 24hrs. I would recommend you mix at no higher than 10% flavor in the beginning. If you find you want a little more flavor it can be added later. You may be going to heavy with the flavoring or it may be the carrier base for the flavoring. If you ordered from wizard than a lot of your flavors are probably Loran and they take some time to develop. Personally I did not find many of their flavors that hit my taste buds (Banana Nut Bread being a notable exception, yummm). I have had better luck with Flavor West. You can order 15ml bottles of FW from Mt. Baker.

Your numbers are fine so your calculations/calculator are fine.

Best of luck. Remember, it is a lot like baking, some times it comes out great other times, well, not so much. But, practice and experience will bring you some great cookies and cream :)

Just to offer my .02,

After mixing my juices for a while I got into mixing them in 100 ml Erlenmeyer flasks. I found this makes mixing them less confusing and pretty straightforward as far as calculating ingredients. Working with a 100 ml batch percentages are very easy to figure. A 50 ml graduated cylinder is also pretty helpful.

Some nic base is peppery, some has a flavour and it usually varies between brands, and some has no flavour at all. There are people who like each of those, so it's a matter of personal taste. We do have a thread here (somewhere! :) ) where people just taste-test various nic bases and report on them. When I first started vaping and needed a big throat hit, a peppery base was just fine. Now I prefer it smoother and a medium aroma/taste is OK as I don't add much in the way of flavouring in order to reduce the unknowns in vaping, as these are mostly from flavours.

Rather than chucking everything in a pot and then wondering which did what to the flavour, you might try first testing the individual components by using a 510 atomiser and driptip. For example if you have 100mg nic base, then dilute that 4x or 5x and vape a few drops, and you'll know what the basis of the whole stack is. If you don't like the nic base you are starting with, then things aren't ever going to work out perfect (unless you like it drowned in flavour).

Then mix 1ml (yes just 1 ml) of a new flavour and drip it to try it out. Don't mix 5ml until you know it's near enough right. Mixing 10ml or more off the bat is an expensive way of throwing money away.

I used different percentages for different flavors. I followed the diy recipes from this site..Most flavors were 5% but some were 13%. I tried dripping the vg and it was good I shall try the pg and see what happens. I used the simple calculator as I only used one flavor per bottle.i will try the mixing 1 ml and testing trick and give some results. I hope this gives me a fix. Thank you everyone for all of the responses.

I followed these flavor percents.

10 ml test batches are a great way to test a new recipe. Think your main problem is not having proper glass ware to mix in. I use glass beakers and flasks to mix in and glass rods to stir with. After mixing I'll leave juice in flasks, open to the air, for a few days, or whenever I get around to it, will stir them whenever am in the lab, like taking a shower, brushing teeth,... then pour into squeeze bottles. Mixing in juice bottles, chances are, juice not getting thoroughly mixed.

I mix at 70% VG, 12 mg nic and 8-14% flavor. Like said, some flavors are more potent than others, and the more complex the recipe, the longer it takes for flavor development.

My flavors of the Month (test batch) I now mix in 100 ml batches. If it makes "House Specialty Blend" status, then will mix it in 200-400 ml batches next. Find that 10 ml is just not large enough to get a full appreciation of it's potential. And if it needs some tweaking, it's easy to do and keep accurate records of the final recipe, so that it can be recreated.

Like with everything, takes some experimenting to become proficient at.

When I say peppery I Mean My Mouth Taste Like I Chain Smoked 3 Newports. To much nicotine. From my research 16mg nic is where I should start when quitting smoking.

There is no right and wrong here. If it feels harsh to you then it is harsh to you. My feeling is the lower you can go and feel comfortable as far as satisfying your urges then the better off you are and the closer you are to eliminating Nic. all together (if that's your goal). Vape at what ever level feels and taste right to you.

Just to throw it out there, but be very careful with your measurements. The Nic. being the most important.

Keep experimenting and soon you will be able to post down in the DIY section if you have any more issues. Lots of knowledgeable folks down there.

The more vg you add the milder it will get. With high vg you may need to add more flavoring as it doesn't carry flavor as well as pg. I have been lowering my nic all along Try 12mg. I smoked 2+ pad for too many years and 18mg/15mg was way to strong for me. The only problem I had was high vg gives me heavy lungs and I feel greasy. I use 70/30 pg/vg.

Wizard Labs is where I bought all my glass ware. Great prices. Bought plastic syringes for measuring, good to have a selection of sizes, makes for precise measurements. I have a 100 ml & 250 ml Erlenmeyer flask, and a 600 ml Griffin Beaker. Use mainly the 250 & 600 ml flasks, but the 100 ml is great for small batches of 50 ml or less. Have used it to make 100 ml batches, but was a tight fit, and only because was making 3 recipes, using all my glass ware. Glass rod are great for stirring. Possibly a nice small whisk, if I could find one that wouldn't rust.

I find high pg to harsh, tis why I mix at 70 % VG, find it much smoother.

I buy my nicotine from e juice 4 you. It is very clean with no taste or smell. I buy them 100mg , because I use so much less to achieve my goal of a 24 mg. Even at that high of a concentration in only 10 ml of juice the nicotine is tasteless. You might expirmenting and try other sellers.what works great for some might not be what works for you because taste is subjective. You might be sensitive to their taste of that suppliers nicotine? I'm assuming you got your percentages correct. You can try a different supplier and see if they taste is gone. At that low amount of nicotine you really shouldn't taste it. Double and triple check your measurements and if they are correct you might consider trying a different supplier and see if that helps. I really hope this helps and wish you then best.

Dice where did you get your mixing equipment? I am mixing in the bottle then warm water bath and shaking the he'll out of them. I will have to try mixing in glass. And yes I am planning on eliminating nicotine sometime..again thank you everyone for all of your input.

I have various pieces of lab equipment, some from Wizard, but to tell the truth, I must have 50 glass baby food jars hanging around with up to 100 ml of different concoctions in them. I use medical tape that can be written on for labels and since it is big I make sure to put ALL the info on it. I keep the bulk of them in a dark cupboard.

Addendum:

If I was to start over and just wanted the basics, I would get:

3 1ml syringes
3 10 ml syringes
1 20 ml syringe

2 50 ml flask

1 100 ml flask

1 10 ml grad. cylinder (Optional, but I like to have one good accurate piece of glass around if for no other reason than for calibration and a good glass cylinder is as close to true as I think you can get)

Also, for fellow cheepskates out there, I found 6 old glass swizzle sticks at a tag sale for 25 cents and they make great stirs.
