Eliquids and headaches

Hi, so glad to have found this forum as I have been trying to find info on eliquid with nicotine and headaches. I am not a headache type person and rarely get them.
A friend lent me a ecig and gave me some Hangsen liquids and from the 1st draw back I got an instant screaming headache. She thought it might be to strong so we diluted the nicotine (18mg) by half with just a flavour. Still got immediate headache but not as bad. I smoke a fairly strong rollie tobacco so I find it hard to believe it was the strength of the nicotine.

I was wondering if this is a common problem until your body gets use to vaping or is it a known problem with Hangsen liquid. My friend had no other brands for me to trial.

Also wondering if there is some sort of safety standard I should look for when buying eliquids. I am trying to give up smoking and get rid of the chemical overload not add some unknown nasty chemical to my body.

Thanks

HI Meggles and welcome to ECF!

Vaping delivers nicotine to the body differently to smoking! and depending on your device and the type of draw you had, you could quite easily have delivered much more nicotine much faster than you are usually used to.

Another contributing factor could be the flavor of the juice, some flavors have a bad name when it comes to headaches especially cinnamon type flavors.

Thirdly, you may have an aversion to some of the ingredients be it the PG or VG in the juice. I am still relativity inexperienced compared to a lot of the guys on here but no doubt some superstar will be along very shortly to give you some more advice!

My Tips for this one,

Try lower nic level/ differently flavors and dont give up on vaping it takes a while to find your nirvana but trust me its out there!!!

Good Luck in your journey to kicking the stinkies.

Hi meggles and welcome to ECF!

BigDvon has given some good advice above. One other thing you ca try while trying to isolate the problem is to get some straight VG from the dug store, thin it with a few drops of distilled water, and try vaping that.

Hope it helps and Happy Vaping!

What sort of e-cig is it?

A higher power e-cig might not need even diluted 18mg liquid.

These 'high' strengths (24, 18) were kind of crucial in the early days. Some people still need them, understandably.

I can vape 24mg in a tobacco company plastic stick cig-a-like without noticing. I mostly vape 6mg in higher powered models these days. It's plenty...

Thank you everyone for your feed back. I won't give up just yet and try some different brands. The type of ecig, djsvapour was a EGO-W so I don't know if this is a high powered model or not. Rsunderl I have some plain flavours no nicotine I will try that and see if it affects me. If it does I will certainly give the VG a go and then I have a good base to work from.

Cheers

I started vaping with 45mg/ml nicotine with the RGR Vuse cigalike. For economical reasons I adopted an Kangerlabs EVOD and continued to vape 48mg/ml with a variable voltage I have been vaping battery set to 3.5V. For the last two weeks. I converted to a SMOK bottom feeder glass tank unit and now find myself vaping at about 40mg/ml it in my office, where I do most of my daytime vaping. I found myself to be vaping a lot more since I changed to the SMOK system. The reduction was due to my adding 18mg/ml flavored juice to my 48mg/ml stock menthol solution. It's been almost three full months and I have no urge to cut back on the nic.

Hey Meggles!

That sounds to me more like an adverse/allergic reaction to PG more than anything else, especially in context of what you state for your smoking situation.

Stock Hangsen liquids only come in two basic versions: 80% PG/20% VG or 80% VG/20% PG. The bottle should tell you what version you have, simply being marked PG or VG in bold type some place on the label. For either version the PG or VG content is about as high as you can get. If it is the PG version you may need to avoid PG in liquids as much as possible. That's doable, but let's try to narrow down the contents of what is giving you the problem first.

Can you get back to us about what the label reads on that bottle regarding if it's a PG or VG version of Hangsen?

Hi, is there a better explanation for all vape terms? like PG or VG?

PG = Propylene Glycol
VG = Vegetable Glycerin

PG,and VG are the primary ingredients along with optional like Nicotine and Flavorings to make e-liquid. You can obtain more info on the stickies in DIY E-Liquid Forum

I had the same problem that you did about 3 months into vaping. I tried everything. I got some really good advice from some other members here.

When you vape you are changing your body's humidity level. I found that I was dehydrating myself. I also learned from the experience what a dehydration headache is.

Make sure you are drinking plenty of water. It doesn't hurt either way but I bet you will find your answer.

It doesn't mean that you aren't still vaping bad liquid but I'm a big believer in starting with the simple stuff.
